The eve nt was roun d 16 of the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Associat ion Speed & Sport Vi ntage Motocross Series. Hond a-mou nted Rinkenbe rg was as fast as any thoroughbred in the Bluegrass State, as he took to p honors in the Over SOIntermediate, O pen Age Inte rmed iate and Sportsman I25cc Intennediate classes. Bruce Rou nsaville timed the gate perfectly as he led LarryShope, Steven Hartlage , Rinkenberg , 8 0 b Ada m s and t he res t of the Over 50 Inte rm ediates of( th e start line. Rinkenb e rg q uickly passed Hartlage to ta ke th ird posi tion , and t he n he moved into second when Sho pe d ro pped his Honda in a tight tum. Rinkenbe rg caught Rou nsaville on the third lap, and the battle for the lead was officially on! Rinkenberg made numerous pass attempts and eve n got a wheel past the CZ pilot at times , but Rounsaville fought o ff every move to take the moto w in. Moto two was all Rinkenbe rg's, thoug h, as he led from the drop o f the gate to the checkered flag. His 2-1 finishes toppe d Ro unsaville 's 1-2 ta lly and he collected the overall win. Rinkenberg's eve ntful day also included two moto sweeps of the Open Age Intermediate and Sportsman 125cc Intermediate classes. His to p finishes will cushion the points lead he presently holds in the Sportsman 12Scc Intermediate and the Over SOIntermediate classes. Jim Pome roy proved his ada pta bility as he piloted a C Z instead o f his tradit io nal Bultaco to a victo ry in t he hotly conteste d O ve r 50 Ex pert clas s. Robe r t N e e le y made h is first a p pea ran ce in t he ha lf-cen t u ry class t o challenge the great American mo tocross he ro , and the tw o speedy ve terans ex cha nged mota victories. Po me roy held off Neeley 's numerous pas s attempts late in the sec on d mo to to take Hatfield , Gies and Des paw locke d horns over sixth place, each aspi ring to r un down a to p five.
