Virginia Championship Hare Scrambles Series Round 14: Landshark Hare Scrambles Greer Catches a Landshark Victory By HEATHER GREER PULASKI, VA, OCT. 24 n-and-Of( rain showers made for a slick. greasy ride for anyone who started off the line at the l4fth race of the Virginia Champion ship Hare Scrambles Series. Ca sey Cycle City/Chick-fil-NPirelii/Steahly -bac ked Yamaha rider Jaso n Greer didn't let the rain shower right before the start slow him down. GoRacebacke d Ho nda rider Travis Jones got th e AA hole shot but drop ped into a rut and hesitated, O opening the door for Greer to make the pass into the lead, Gree r then rode a flawless race. "The re were so many rocks an d roots , It Greer noted . " Maint aini ng momentum was everything, and the Pire lli were working great s under these co ndit ions," Wh ile Gree r was stret ching o ut a lead , Blue Ridge Power sports/Steve 's Performanee/C larkbacked H o nda r ide r Ashle y Hall moved int o second w hen he found Jones laid ov er in t he infamous Shark Cree k. (No real sharks lurk in these wa te rs, but th e re are plenty of shar p. slick roc ks that "bite.") Honda rider Chance Bake r recovered from a wreck in the first mud hole and chased after Jones and IMS-backed Yamaha rider Geo rge Gree r. Bot h Geo rge and Bake r caugh t Jo nes on the second lap. Baker caught George on an uphill line , wh e re Geo rge had let off slightly, and Baker charged ahead . At the end of an exciting fou r laps. Jason too k the overall with a five- mi nut e lead on H al l. Bak er ma intained th ird place fo r th e res t of t he ra ce , and Geo rge took fourth . Faddis maint aine d second place t he entire race, but third- placed KTM rider Kyle Henderson caught up to him towa rd the end of each lap. Faddis would chen turn it up and put more distance between them in the beg inning of each lap. On the first lap of the 250cc A race, Jimmy's Cycle Sales/Cycle Connection/Bruce's Suspension-sponsored Honda rider Justin Stone was the leader. At the end of the first lap, Stone flipped his bike; after that mishap, his pace slowed , and KTM rider Tim Bo ngard caught him and made the winningpass on an uphill run. Southern Enduro Riders Association Hare Scrambles Series Round 7 : Cajun Hare Scrambles Myatt's Ragin' at the Cajunl By CHARAY DuBOSE BALL, LA, OCT. 24 The Acadiana Din Riders put on an excellent I hare scrambles eve nt in the Kisatchie Forest . Those who raced this event said that it was the most fun the y' d had all seaso n. With the SERA hare scrambles season coming to a close , a nd with a d isappoi nt ingly low turn out, th is event it was a sure "points getter " for everyo ne. Gle n Myatt too k his se cond SERA ha re scra mb les ove rall win of the se aso n. putting himself clo ser to t he top , cloc king in at an incre di bl e two hou r s. II m inute s a nd 24 seconds . more than four minutes ahead of the second-place finisher. "I loved the trails. and I had a great ride!" Myatt said. "I just wish they would have had a better turnout. Everyone missed out on a lot of fun." Taking second overall was Open B rac er Du st in St evens . T he Suzuk i joc key had an aweso me rid e. placing higher than he 's ever place d be fore . Stevens will join the A-class riders next season . and he will certain ly provide them wit h some ser ious competition. Third place went to A 20 0cc race r Wi ll McConne ll, wh o was fo llo w ed by a no t her Op e n B rider, Le e Everett. McC onn ell wen t into the scoring ten t w ith Eve rett just eight seco nds behind him. "This was by far the most fun course of the year," McConnell said after the race . "The ADR dub did an excellent job with the trails, and it's a shame there were not more people here to enjoy it. Th e skirm ish for seventh and e ighth place was truly a battl e to the finish. Sen ior racers Doug Herrington and Bennie Waldrop sta yed together throughout the day, right down to the finish line, where Heni ngton blasted through the scoring tent only one second ahead of Waldrop! Rounding out the top 10 we re Super Sen ior rider Randy Edgen and, just I I seco nds later, A 200cc ride r Jeff Parke . Edge n not only made his first top -10 finish, he also got his first class win.
