It was close racing all night in the Vintage Light class betwee n Bultaco jockey Pat Mullaney and Yamaha rider Ken Davis. Mullaney took the ch ecke red flag fo r the win, w ith Davis seco nd an d Wilb ur Pickren taking t he final podium position in third . Charlie Sabatka Jr. put the Charlie's Tractor Trailer Service Ho nda out front early in the Open Am class, with Brett Sassaman in hot pursuit on the Macon H/D -b acke d Honda. Pro moter Rex Harvey made the final event of the year memorable w ith an unusual th re e -mo to format, father/son fun races, and a live band on Saturday night . The large turn o ut of bo th Pro and Amateur racers packed the starting gates, giving fans nonstop racing excitement. Harvey and th e SRAC o fficia ls wo rke d overtime to ensure t he wee kend races ran smooth ly and were completed by dusk each day. Mic hae l Krieger dom ina ted t he Open Novice class on his 250F Yamaha. Krieger easily won all three mo tos and earned the final mar k he ne e de d to move up to the 125cc B class. Ho nda rider Gran t Schmerckle finished second overall, fo llowed by Yamaha racers Shaun Haase and Rob e rt Pickrel , wi th A lex Tr av n ic e k ro unding ou t th e to p five on his KTM. O n his 2S0F Ho nda. Matt Karlsen dominated the 12Scc Pro class. Having traveled most of the summer, competing in national motocross races with th e likes o f Ricky Carmichae l. Chad Reed and Jam es Stewart. Karlsen returned home fo r the final race o f the season in to p condit ion to take top honors. T he local Pros made Karlsen work for t he mo ney, however, co ns istent ly beat ing him o n the gate and fo rcing him to work his way up to the fron t. In t he first 125cc Pr o moto, Ho nd a moun ted Trevor Monks quickly moved int o first. Karlsen started in fifth . Karlse n picked off a r id e r eac h lap , and the n. ha lfway through lap flve. he jumped two spots. passing 2S0F Yamaha r ider Travis Banniste r and Monks to take the lead and the mota w in. In moto two, C harlie Rupprecht. competing in th e adjo ined Co llegeboy ( 14- 24 ) cl a ss. showed the 125cc Pro s how it's done by tak ing the holeshot with his 2S0 F Ho nda. This time. Meanwhile, Ve t Pr o and 12Scc Pr o Andy Atk ins ha d advanced from fo urt h into first on his Yamaha, and he held off Karlsen until t he sevent h lap. Karlsen finally found a w ay around Atkins and took the win . The grueling pace co ntinued as the 125cc Pro s bat tled in the th ird and final moto. Shane DeScenzo blast e d of f the gate on his 250F Honda, taking a decisive le ad fo r eigh t laps. Karlsen was back in third , aga in trying to ge t ar o un d Atkin s. wh o e ffective ly blo cked him unt il lap nine . W ith only two laps to go, Karlsen passe d Atkins on the back side o f th e track and pr es sed ahead to ove rtake De Scen zo . Then Atkins suffered a mechanical and had to pull o ut o f th e race, mak ing roo m for ano ther national r id e r. Ted Campbell.
