Ripple 's t roub les we ren 't over, as on t he se venth lap Saylor moved to his re ar fender and then mad e th e pass and went loo king (or Woods. On the ninth lap , Ripple again fell victim to anot he r ride r: Honda-mounted Ch ad Ch arbonneau . When the mo to ended, the order was Woods , Saylor, Charb onneau and Ripple. T he pre-race favorite, Natio nal num ber 34, Clark Stiles, had gotten a bad start and was onty able to wo rk his way up to seventh by mot e's en d. When the gate dropped for the second moto , Stiles too k the lead and sho wed w hy he is a top ranked Nat io nal ride r. laying the smac k down on the rest of the riders . Behind Stiles , Saylor was on the hunt for the fro nt spo t, but on the e ighth lap his foc us shifted fro m chasing down Stiles to dealing w ith Wood s, who was knocking on his back doo r. By the time Saylor knew Woods was ther e , it wa s too late: Woods made th e pass. Then Woods went looking for the fron t spot, but by the n St ile s had checked o ut! Wh e n th e che cke re d flag flew, Stiles had th e moto win, with Woods sec o nd and Saylor third. When the ove ralls we re tallied , Woods was the w inner, w ith Say lo r se con d o ve rall and Charbonnea u third . ''I'm glad to w in on e for KTM," Wood said. Near the one-hour mark, pit stops becam e a hot to pic of conversation among the teams . T he Ritzman c re w learned the hard way o n Saturday that yo u can't push a motorcycle nearly as fast as you can ride one, so they wo uld be ready early. As for La Montange, his stock MX tank requi red him to make two stops, w hich caused him to drop back to fifth by rac e's end due to the extra time in the pits. T he r ace for t he top s po t would be determin ed b y t he blazing s peed of Moos e /Carter Po w e r Sports/M axis Tires' Dietrich, as he pulled out the win in the tough Sem i-Pro class. Th is was his second w in of the weekend, as he beat the best in th e 250cc A class as w e ll. The battle fo r sec o nd came down to the last lap, the last jump and the last turn , as Ritzman crossed the finish line just inches ahead of Reno 's Soule. Talk abo ut a finish: O nly 24 seconds se para ted th e top t hre e rid ers, w ith the gap between Ritzman and Soule being just over one second. No w, that is close!
