> CMC Trans-Cal Series South Round 4: I-S MX Memoli Makes the Grade as Finals Get an A+ By JOHN BETHEA GORMAN, CA, OCT. 10 A s the final rou nd of regional qualifying for /""\t he CM C's FMF/ MTA West Tr a ns-C al Nationals deve loped at the 1-5MX facility, series positions had bee n pre tty we ll established, so individual duels became the focus, and this day's "final exam" got an A+ in excitement! Brian Burns swe pt the 250cc and 500cc Pro events , but he started late at the drop of the gate in single-mota Pro/Intermed iate race . Running against the 12Scc Intermediates, Burns eventually pulled his Honda into second place at the end of the 10-lappe r, but it was Robert Memoli of Tehachapi, Califo rnia. w ho stole the show on his Honda CRF250R by taking the lead on lap tw o and winning by seven seconds ahead ofthe Pro . The race was highlighted by a terrific batt le betw ee n the early leade r, 17-yea r-o ld Austin Ingalls, and IB-year-old Steven Cisar. Relegated to second early on , Yamaha rider Ingalls was challenged by Cisar as early as lap tw o, but during t he thir d lap things rea lly got intense when Cisar pulled his Honda alongside Ingalls. Five times they traded second place during the Austin Ingalls (119) leads Ricky Hemme (426), Steven Cisar (43) , Memoli (445) and Weston Arthurs in the single-moto Pro/Intermediate race at 1·5 MX. remainder before Cisar came out on top. Late in the contest , Cha d An derson charged his Ho nda past Ingalls and began a dr ive toward C isa r, ge tting to w ithi n one second at the end but finishing third . Anderson got the 250cc holeshot in t hat 20 -mi nut e event , but aga in Me mo li took charge by t he second lap and exten ded his lead to the end . Cisar, back in t hird, began a laterace push for runne r-up, but cou ldn' t quite catch Anderson before t he checkers . Burns, ru nning uno ppo sed , stayed o ut of t heir way back in fourth ove rall. Anot her whee l-to -w heel, peg-to-peg fight came in t he seco nd Vet Pr o mo to . San ta Ba r ba ra's Jon O rtner wo n t he first race , passing Over 25 Master Jon Zahrt's Kawasa ki just four turns from the end to get the win by less than one bikelength. In that crucial second mota. he had to contend with fellow Over 30 Pro David Antillion, who had sco red second in the class' initial mota on his Honda. Com ing into the final lap, Antillion passed Ortn e r, who took it back. only to be aced out again. It was another one-length margin at the finish. but with Ortner as runner-up th is time. t ~ Pro rider Brian Burns missed the sta rt of that co mb ined race but still managed to place seco nd overall. A scramble is th e best way to describe t he 12Scc Beginner class . First-moto winner Brent Reyes crashed on the first lap of the second stanza w h ile dici ng with Ba ke r sfield , Cal ifornia's Jared Aseltine, w ho nailed bot h holeshots. Motokazie.com Pit Bike Supermoto Shakopee Raceway Park Sparks Sets Oft Some Excitement in Shakopee By MARK CONLEY SHAKOPEE, MN, OCT. 3 h ad Sparks ran u nco nt e st e d at Motokazie's first-eve r Supermoto eve nt , as a nice. sunny day greeted about 50 racers at 5hakopee Raceway Park . The Supermoto course weaved fro m the banked, asphalt corners onto the dirt infield. To kee p it inte resting, two doub le jumps and a few whoops were built in, as so me 700 car-racing spectat o r s were treated to a few motorcycle Supermoto races. As the Big-Bike Supermoto class took off, Spa r ks gra b bed th e holes hot on his Cloutdoor.com-backed CRF450R and began to st retc h his lead a head o f Dave Ingalls and C Michael Danhaggard . Ingalls stayed close , and by lap three he'd cleared the dou ble jump . "I wan ted to jump the double," Ingalls Slated afterward , "so I finally judged Chad 's speed and we nt for it." At t he end of lap t hre e , it was Sparks an d Ingall s , trailed by Da nh agga rd , on a much o lde r flat-tracker TT500 . Sparks was padding his lead over Ingalls, so he took t he time to show off his w hee lie skills, and the crowd cheered in a pproval. At th e finish, Sparks ha d a 20-seco nd lead over Ingalls an d Danhaggard . In mota two. Sparks again took the lead b ut fe ll in the seco nd corner.
