The IGOcc Sports man Modified A (Expe rt) class w as divided into fou r divisions for t he heat race s, and the main event wo uld be a grand one , with a total of 19 riders. Michael Mart in, Chad Cose, Garrett Slate and Mar k Key all had the ir bikes running wel l. Key, the winner of the 1000c National event last year, took t he main-eve nt holes hot , with Mart in coming in strong behind him. Brad Baker took over the th ird spot on lap th ree, moving Robe rt Cu rry back. Cos e was mo ving up t he line. pass ing Slat e on lap four for fifth . Key continued to put distance betwee n himself and Mart in and Baker e n route to the checker ed flag. Dan ny C ase y aga in showe d w hy he is number one in the Black Plate points. So uth Fork Dirt Riders Appreciatian Weekend Day 1: South Fo rk Dirt Riders A Day of Firsts Bv BRoe MIKEL TAYlORVILLE, IL, OCT. 16 \ A fo en the ride rs showed up at South For k Y Yfor the first day of Appreciatio n Weeke nd, ther e was a re laxed nature to the event. With many changes being done to the grounds as well as the track this year, t he rider turnout has just bee n grea t. O n this weekend. the staff of South Fork wante d to show the riders and families that t he fir st moto , O w en Honda ri der just in Pincka rd p ut in a flawl e ss rid e , tak ing t he holeshot and leading the whole moto fo r the w in. This marke d the fir st mo ta win fo r Pinckard in the B class. Behind Pinckard , Hon da rid e r jaso n Harr is was ve ry smoo t h, neve r lett ing Pinckard out of his sight for a sec ond . Honda rider Scott McAdams finished third . The second moto started t he same: w ith Pinc kard o ut front , Harris in se co nd a nd McAd a ms in t hird . Whe n the ride r s came aroun d for the white flag, a lapper moved into Pinckard 's path , knoc king him to the gro und! Ha rris wen t by as Pinckard remounted, and whe n they got to the whoops , Pinckard tried to ma ke a pass, b ut he slid o ut in the mud th e y do tru ly app reci ate t heir sup po rt . For st ar te rs, o n th e first day, t he re we re spe cial events suc h as bike race s at inte rmission , and whe n the races were over, there was a dinner large enou gh to feed all the peo ple at the eve nt. Faced with a we t track in the morn ing, the cre w went to work, and by the t ime the first moto left the line, the track was in perfect shape. In the 2S0cc B class. it w as a day of firsts . In be tw ee n th e w hoops and went down again. McAdams moved by for seco nd, and that's how they finished . Harris too k the moto w in and his first 2S0cc B overall victory. McAdams finished second for t hird overall. Pinckard finished third for seco nd ove rall. "That seems to be w hat has happened to me all yea r." Pinckar d sa id. The te am fro m Finland used a 1982 Wasp-Vamaha to give the cur ren t series competit ors a dose of how fast the Euro pean sidecar tea ms can go in this very cool sport. English sidecar racers Stewart Lines & Colin Dunkle y w e re also o n han d , as t hey we re vacationing in the USA and decided to take in a race mee ting as we ll. Lines & Dunkley were we ll on the pace when the loaned outfit quit running in practice and the scram ble began to find the m ano the r sidecar to use in the rac e . The on ly availa ble spar e rig was a right- hande d Wasp Hon da C RSOO, which was not too suitable for the normally left-handed English te am.
