Shawn was aske d how an "o ld guy" like him got it done. "Hey, be nice!" he re sponded. "With a kid that races and work ing full-ti me t hro ugh th e week, this w hole racing thi ng isn't easy like it used to be . We had a great time ton ight, and I' m happy I ca me down. I w o n a class and Michael won a class. This is great! " RESULT S Local Pro Shawn Wright recently turned 30 and decided to try his luck in the Over 30 Ex pe rt class at round seven of the Sa turda y Night YZ Thunder Se ries at Ascot MX Park. He won both motos in con vincing fa shion. Boshe rs rou nded ou t the top five. In moto tw o, Boshers rocketed into the lead abo ar d his screaming H us qvarna, ahead o f Mizell, Higgins and the re st of t he pack. Not want ing t o waste time , H iggins quickly moved to t he fron t a nd too k over the poin t posi t ion . W r ight made his way forward int o second . Higgins turned it up a notch to try to stay ahead . The tw o again pulled a huge lead over the field, but it only lasted a lap. Higgins and Wright w er e both now hucking the big double in the center of the track , until Higgins too k a nasty spill upo n landing. As Wright took over the lead . the race was his. A few pare nt s r ushed t o att e nd to Higgins, but he eventually rode out his last lap; it w as evide nt he had really w anted that w in. As Higgins crossed t he c heckers. he received a standing ovat ion (rom the spectato rs. Higgins redee med his evening by winning the Pee Wee Open as well as the overall in the 65cc (6-8) class after trad ing moto wins with Wright. In the Over 30 Expe rt class, local Pro Shawn Wr ight , Michael's fat he r, s howed up to see what it ' s like to finally race w it h the e lder states me n. Gating 20 se co nds behind the O pen Pro class, the old -timers got away clean , with Shaw n in the lead and Mike McCutcheon and Aaron Mayhugh fo llow ing.
