Afte r a little mo re scro unging. another br oken per ch was found and repaired enough to work. Meanwhile, Lovelac e was having problems with his bac k br ak e , so flu id w as quickly ad de d . As th e promoter began to sweat, both riders completed their repairs and prepared for the jump contest . The ra mps were mo ved furth e r apa rt . as OneWest Clothing/Rescue On e's Lovelace was the first to jump, w hile Waltman explained each tric k to the awestruck cro wd . Lovelace 's run included a No-Foo ted Can -C an. a Supe rman Seat Grab, a Doub le Superman Seat Grab and a Loo k Over Indian Air, Waltman respond ed with a No-Footed Can-Can, a Heart Attack, a Kiss Of Deat h, a Superman Indian Air and a Double Grab Indian Air. Although the competition wa s close , the crowd gave t he edge to Waltman . The riders put on a great show and left the crowd begging for more . In the second moto for the 4-6 class, it was a battle between Waite and Higgins again. This time. Waite stayed upright th rough the first corner and made short work of Higgins. Waite was nying on his Mot o Ou tfitter s-backed Pclini, docking lap times t hat would have put him with the top ride rs in th e 7-B class . Waite to ok a huge win. while Higgins too k ru nne r-up honors. Meanwhile, ther e was an inte nse battle for third spo t; Cocly He rzog held it for several laps. but Michael "Mikey" Ramire z and Ryan Mart in had othe r ide as. Marti n finally cut to the inside of Herzog and too k over third. The battle for third inte nsifie d w he n t he ride rs ran into lappe d t raffic: Martin to ok the inside line on th e last corner to cut unde rne at h the m, while Herz og tried railing th e far o utsi d e . and Ram irez decided to cut down the middle, right through the th ick of the m. Ultimately, Herzog had the be tte r line, and he to ok third place by a mere ha lf a bik elength ov er Martin , and Ramir ez ended up fifth. In the first mota of the combined SOcc (4-6) and (7-8) classes , Sunset Mort gage/JJW Designs-bac ked Polini pilot Andr ew Nes sel to ok the holes hot . Half of the class end ed up on the ground in the tight first co rne r, including 50cc (4-6) hotshot Ryd er Waite. Nessel . w ho on ly has a fe w months' experience in the 7-8 class, effect ively held off Kelt in Boykin for several laps - unt il Boykin finally jumped by for the lead. Co bra mounted Warren Higgins had fourth (and first in the 4-6 class) loc ked down - until the last lap . when, afte r blasting through almost 20 riders, Waite snea ked up on Higgins. Boykin took the chec ker ed nag, with Nesse l only a bike length be hind in second. Caleb Gillum finished a lonely third, and Higgins too k fourth, beating Waite by bare ly a hair. Fo r t he second mota, the t ra c k crew decided to split t he classes, so the 7· B class we nt first. Boykin and Ne sse l rushed into th e first corner together. Boykin got out into th e lead a little earlie r, but Nessel wouldn't give up. hounding Boykin's every move. The two went at it the entire moto, but once again it was Boykin's jumping the starting-line tabletop that put him just e no ugh ahead to ta ke the w in . Nessel took ano ther second . and Gillum was several straightaways back in third. Boykin ( I- I) front to the ch eck ers . Horne was able to reel Reed in several times during th e race but was never able to make a pass. Daniel Black. the newest addit ion to the Expert class, managed t o ke e p Horne in sight but wa s to o bus y worrying about Joshu a Bracke n to be a t hre at to Horne. At 15 years old , Black promi ses to be a seri ous contender in the hotl y contested Scott USA Motocross Cham p ion sh ip . Bracken . wh o ge nera lly w ins, w as suffering from bike problems that ke pt him lock ed in fourt h place . Ste ve n Yaro sz, Mike Ehmann and Cod y Miller ke pt busy racing eac h othe r and let the oth e rs slip away. The second moto proved to be the bett e r of the two for Horn e, who passed Reed early on and ke pt his lead to th e e nd. Althou gh Reed pr essu red Ho r ne he re a nd t here. Horn e defended his lines and kept the door shut. Bracken, again having bike problems, gave an all-o ut effort and man aged third ove rall. The ar seco nd moto was also better for Y osz , who passed Black and was on his way to third , but the end of the moto came before the pass did. Th e 250cc Expert class was also a cro wd pleaser, with Home taking the overall by posting a first and a second. The start has the racers going away from the spectators and gives the cro wd a thunderous charge when the mote s for the big-bore four-strokes sta rt . Horne shared w ins with Bracken and second-place finishes with Bl ck. The huge spectator crowd on hand seemed to e nergize the racers . pushing the leve l of e xcitement in the air over the top . The Expert classes we re full of horne - S grown MilanCycle City regulars, most of whom started racing at Milan o n min icycles in the Beginner classes and have prog ressed up to the four-stroke powerho uses in the Expert classes.
