Race three was a perfect race day, with great wea ther, the best trac k in the Midwest, 14 classes wit h full start lines, and 300 entries from I I states. On e riders' meeting an nou nceme nt t hat drew applause was the news that Torque Center is go ing to cont inue in busin es s, with Gayle Gaborsky in charge. Torq ue Cent er has been the best and longe st sup porter of th e Aztalan Sen io r Series, and nobody wanted to see them go. Th e "kids" start ed the day 's fun, as the Over 25 A cro wd hit the first tum . Karter Busse has a few thousand laps under his belt at Aztalan and dem onstrated his expe rtise by go ing I- I, ahead of another Aztalan regular, Eron Ezerins. A pair of Jasons , K1o ptowsky and Warner, wrapped up th ird and fourth, ahead o f Minneso ta's Craig Schwartz. Warner and Ezerins traded moto wins in the Ov er 30 A contest, but it was Ezerins who won th e second mota fo r th e overall. Schwan: (3-3) was third ove rall. Thirty -e ight riders poured int o the loamy first tur n as the O ver 30 B contest got unde r way. Carl Hein co llected the first-mot a win, but pro blem s in th e se co nd go -aro un d left him seve nth, for th ird overall. jo hn Anet sbe rge r's pair of deuces gave him the ove rall win. Andy Stacy bega n his nea r-pe rfec t day with a 2-1 sco re in Over 35 A class on his RH, ahead o f Th om as Dr enka ( 1-2). In the Over 35 B class, Jeff Blaha won mo ta o ne an d Bob Ha ll w on mota two, leaving a co nsisten t Carl Hein the ove rall w inner with a pair of seconds. Midwest Supercross South Dakota State Fair Koch Cookin' at the Fair By BRAD LETCHER HURON, SD, SEPT. 10 P ete rson Racing Pro motions' Doc Pe te rso n brou ght th e Midwest Super cross show to the South Dakot a State Fair for the first t ime in nearly two decades. The night started orr with Cole Shoe nrock 's dom inating win in the Pee Wee B class. Secondplaced Corb in Olson took the checke rs ahead of Tyler Hansen. W hen asked if he would like a kiss from the trophy girl, the shy Schoenrock quickly answe red, "No !" The Pee We e A class showcased anot he r ru naway victory, as Co by O cke nga soare d to the win. Ockenga piloted his KTM ove r some of t he bigger do ub le ju m ps, mu ch t o t he amaze ment of the crowd. Tanner Schnabe l held on for seco nd, ahead of Blake Larson and Cod y H ut c hinso n, w ho ha d ba tt led together thro ughout both motos. The 85 cc (7-1 I) class featu red seve ra l big crashes that dram atically change d the overall finishing or der. In the first mota , Cole Schnabel crashe d hard on t he fron t -st raight do uble , as the entire cro wd held its collective breath . The race win wen t to MidAme rica MotoP lexfTCR Wh eellacing/EVS Spo rts-backed Michael Bierne , who was spo rting a special set of green-co lore d rims. Second place we nt to Riley Novak, who was followed close ly by Austin Ande rson. The second mot o didn't go so well for Novak, as he crashed out befor e com pleting a lap. This time it was Schnab e l who followed Bierne to th e che cke rs, w ith And e rso n again placing t hird . Ander son finishe d se cond overall, with Aaron Sch ie rnbeck placing th ird ove rall via a S-4 tally. Moto o ne of the 125cc B class feat ured a 66 back-and-forth battle for the win between Nick Ladd usaw, Kyle McC u t c he o n a nd D ust in Ahrendt . Before it was over, Devin Rippe came fro m a fifth-place start to join the batt le for the wi n . Aft er lead ing t h e first t wo la ps , McC ut ch eo n e nde d u p in fifth . Nic k Feist slipped into fourth. Laddusaw came out on top, w ith Rippe an d Ahren dt finishing two -three . Mota tw o saw McCu tch e o n aga in tak e th e holeshot and the lead, in front of Laddusaw, Ahrend t and Rippe . Th e Rippe /Ahre ndt fight wo uld go do wn to a photo finish, w ith Rippe gra bbing t hir d , be hind McCutcheon , aft e r a confe re nce between t he officials . Finishi ng positions for the ove rall were Laddusaw, Rippe, McCutcheon , Ahrendt and Feist. Th e 12Scc A and 250 cc A classe s feat ured three-w ay fight s amo ng Michael Koch , Matt Anson and Brandon Hoff. Anson ran away in the first 125cc A me te for a wire- to-wire win, over Koch and Hoff, but Koch w o uld do th e sam e in mo ta two. Hoff stole se co nd on the last lap from Anson, so Koch too k the overall. Th e first 2S0cc A con test would be much of the same, with Koch taking the win. Howeve r, Anso n had to battl e up from fourt h, be hind jess e Pet erso n and Brand on Kruger, to finish se co nd . In t he final moto, HoH fina lly go t a ho leshot and t he wi n, in fro nt o f Koch and Kruger. Koch took the ove rall again, with Hoff second and Anson third . commanding fashion, with Scott Currie putting toge the r a pair of seco nds for secon d overall and Bob Lewis go ing 4-3 fo r th ird . Rick O xley co llected both Ov er 4S B mota wins, but in the second mote he had to co ntend with a solid holeshot from Minnesota 's Harry Goo ch. Co llecting second overall was Charles Savats ki (4-2). Iowa's jo hn Tied en has been dominant all season long in the Ov e r SO class, and this day was no differen t, as he powe red to a pair of wins over O xley and jerry Je nsen. Indiana's Harry Lewis swept bot h Over 60 mote s, but eac h time he had to get past South Dakota's jim De nevan, w ho was breaking in a new Honda CRF25 0 by pulling holeshots all day. The day's fina l class was for tw in-shock vintage bikes, a crowd favo rite. Frank Dunn and his '79 Maico Mag num co uld n' t be to uched , beating Mark Thom pson's 1981 490cc Maico .
