Ricky Marsha ll had just returned from a weeklong race "vacatio n" in South Dakota, but he saved just enough e nergy to w in the 505cc Pro -Sp o rt featu re bef ore hea ding ho me fo r some we ll-ear ned rest . The "other Ricky" - Ricky Bo ley - had a full class of 250s to race against for a change , but that didn't alter the usual outcome: He still ran away fro m everyone. Robert E. De scenna kept Bo ley honest for a bit unt il his mo tor locked up. Kyle Wyman from Ne w York rode we ll all day and to o k second , be hi nd t he speedy Bo ley. Speedway rider C had Rail debuted in his first "shifte r and brake" class and did well on the F&S Suzuki, finishing a close fo urt h, behind vete ran Curt Joh nso n, w ho rode a Woods Cycle Honda. Rail's dad , dirt- track legen d Ronn ie Rail, rode a Triumph to a second-place finish in the Over 60 class, be hind his o ld rival Jack Warren, w ho rode a very fast Ro tax to the victa ry. In tr ib ute to fa llen Grand Nationa l sta r Aa ro n Crea m er, Tim H ump h r ies bolted nu mber-64 plates to t he fro nt of his Ro tax. T hey stayed nice and dean for three laps as Hum ph ries led the Over 30 field in fine sty le befo re fading to an event ual fifth. The re was no fade in Todd Co nan t , whose char ge fro m the back of the pack climaxe d w ith a last-lap, lasttu rn pa ss o f To m Woo ds to finish seco nd , beh ind Tom's older broth e r Dave . The race liv ed up t o its lac k of billing and left no one screaming for more. The re was more racing scheduled for Sunday, but after the heats , a heavy and sust ai ne d do wnpour w as he d out t he finals. Sunday 's classes were paid off by the heat-race finishes.
