As th e Pr emier Open final got under way, any hopes Beatt ie had of a strong showing we re quickly dashed as t he pack headed into corne r one . H e couldn't square off the corne r fr om his inside position and wen t down. taking several riders out w ith him. Tom Bitz was one of the few able t o avoid the mel ee, and he jum ped into the lead heading out int o the speedway oval. T his left visiting t;; American Logan Myers and Lino Zec ca battling for second. W hile z Arnol d got caught up in the turn-one mess, he recovered quickly ~ and started to move upward th ro ugh t he field . Befo re halfway, [ Arnold had overtaken Zecca for third , and he was continuing to ~ pull the fastest lap times of the day. Beattie wou ld eve ntually drop o ::; out of the race completely, wh ich all but sealed the cham pionship win for Arnold. I z In true champion fashion , Arnold wasn't going to settle for just ~ cr uising to th e finish: He co nt inued to push and move d up into ~ co is seco nd, and by halfway he'd taken the lead fr om Bitz .
