Honda rider Kevin Wells got a charact e rist ically good start and led early in the first mota . Pipes fou nd it in the be rm right before the track's big triple jump and made an aggress ive but clean block-pass to take the lead . Wells he ld on to finish second, followed by Suzuki-moun ted Clayton Peck. Seth Hickman finished fo urth in the o pe ning race and was visibly de te r mined to do bet te r the seco nd time o ut; he got a dece nt start on his Ho nda fo ur-stroke and led most of the race . Pipes came thro ugh the pack again, though he did n't have to do as mu ch w or k th e se co nd time aro und. On ce he was beh ind Hickman, the duo set a blistering pace and pulled away fro m the rest of the pack. Pipe s was knocking on the do or, bu t Hickman just wo uldn't answer: He held on to wi n th e mota, but Pipes to ok the overall victory with a 1-2 punch. He followed that up with a mor e co nsistent showing (2- 1) in t he Schoolboy ranks. Mota one of th e 125cc Inter mediate class saw Brad Kelly grab the holeshot, followed by Posey, Trevor Doniak, Matt Crawford and Greg Kar mann . A fie rce batt le fo r t he le ad q uickly ensued and lasted four laps until Posey finally a made a move on Kelly for th e top spot. Kelly hung to ugh and followed Posey acro ss the finish line for seco nd. Don iak mainta ined third spot.
