Stanley was the " king o f smo o th " on th e fast fiat -track- like sec tion, but Burto n was d ialed in on t he motocross-style jump . Burt on, riding his RJ Perf ormance Maxxis Yamaha YZ4S0F, go t the ho lesho t in th e S I final and led from start to finish. Stan ley, riding a Aup perle Racing/Eakin Racing. pre pped Ho nda C RF4S0 R, attacked Burt o n's lead on lap two but washed out in the dirt . After remounti ng, Stanley chased Burto n down, and he appeared to have Burton's number. Stanley made another grab (or the lead going into the dirt , only to crash a second time . lo sing a place to Husqvarna 570mounted David Kilkenny. a very fast Amateur from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Stanley had his revenge in the Open Money event, lead ing Burton from flag to flag and lapping up to fourth place . Kilkenny ro u nd e d out the top three and was the on ly Open Money pod ium finisher to have raced in two previous classes - a feat of great endurance in the pun ishingty hot weather. The Schaumberg Honda/Wiseco Pisto n-bac ked father-and son team of Mike Harlow Sr. and Mike Harlow Jr. dom inated the remainder of the big-bike classes. Mike Jr., a regular at the Wisconsin-based Superbikers2 regional series, wo n the S2 main event with consistency and determination, fe nding off the challenges of Clayton Shambaugh and storied Pro rider Perry Prichard . Shambaugh, a motorcycle techn ician at World of Powersports in Decatu r, Illinoi s , pu t t o g e t he r his si lver performance follow ing a one -year break from racing. Shambaugh sh owed grit and considerable skill on a lightly modified , borrowed Honda CRF4S0R. Prichard , a W ERA Nationals winner and past recipient o f the CCS "O n T he Gas " award , struggled with blown fork seals, the consequence of a morning p ract ice incident. Prichard , who w ill campaign the AMA Supe rmoto Ser ies th is yea r w ith Ultimate Edge Racing , soldie re d o n with his wounded bike to a close thir d-place finish. Mike Sr:s mome nt in th e lime light came in the very ne xt event, t he Sport Mota final. Riding a C RF4S0 R, he took the checkers after capitalizing on Dan jo hnso n's last -turn crash. Jo hnso n, riding a Suzuki DRZ400 , lowsided at speed exiting the sweeping left-hande r but remounted to claim second place. Honda CRF·mounted Chicagoan Charles Spreitzer completed the podium.
