Wild West Arena Boyle Scalding Hot at Wild West! By RYAN EVANS WINCHESTER, CA, JULY 31 ust in Bo yle sco r e d a stunning vic tory o ve r SRA Na tional C hamp io n Sco tt Brant in the J cratch main event at W ild W est Speedw ay in Wincheste r, California . Brant was unde feated in his th ree heat races and cho se gate fo ur. Boyle t he n selected gate three. Shaun Harm at iuk took gate two, Denny Scopellite picked th e pol e . an d Na te Perkins was left wit h the ou tside . Boyle was first o ut of the bloc ks, and he cut to the pole . w hile Brant w e nt to the ou tside in turn one and used it to take the lead on the back straight . Brant hit a rut in tu m fo ur, w hich fo rced him off the throt tle and allowed Boyle to retake the lead. Brant spe nt t he next two laps closing th e gap on Boyle , and he tried th e o utside again in turn one on the last lap. Boyle hit a bump in turn two, w hic h sent him into Bra nt 's line , for cing the champio n to slow. T his gave the 17year-o ld an insurmo untable advantage , which he held to the chec kered flag. Brant had to settle fo r second, Harmatiuk finished third. Scopellite was fourth , and Per kins took fifth. Tim Gomez wo n the first six Sec ond Divisio n mains of 2004, but on this night John Stunkard ended his streak. Mark Baldw in was first out of the gate but missed tu m one and took himse lf and Go me z d eep into th e co rne r. Stu nkard h ugged the pol e a nd t o o k th e le ad . Gome z recovered and scrambled to cut into Stunkard 's lead in ho pes of prese rving his st rea k. Go me z wa s o n Stu nka rd's bac k t ire e ntering the final corner, but Stunkard was able to beat th e ISyear-old to the checkered flag. Baldwin finished th ird , and Eloy Med ellin was fou rt h. Kerry Conner took the lead on the restart of the Third Division main eve nt, but To m Hamilto n we nt by on the inside in turn three and neve r looke d back on his way to his sec ond main-event w in of the season. Mike Boyle finished second, Steve Dz iadu s Jr. was t hird , Co nne r finished fou rth, and Mark Sincavage was fifth. His Hangt ime teammate Cody Bacdno to ok over seco nd , wi t h Kee ne n Zamora giving c hase , ahead of Dev o n C arroll , an other Ha ngt ime ride r. Sear ch ro unded o ut th e top five at the end of th e first lap, but that w o uld n't last long, as he got aro und bo th Zamora and Carr o ll in the seco nd go -around. Two ot her ride rs o n the m o ve were Wa lt s M X/ B r i d g e s t o n e ~ b a c k e d Michael Lo w e nth al a nd Conne r Gree n, wh o took ove r fourt h and fifth, respectively. Ahead of th e m, Search wa s putt ing in so me airt ime, clearing t he big finish-line do uble to gain o n se co nd-placed Bacdno. Before the pack to ok th e wh ite flag, Gree n go t around Low e nt hal, but he lost the spo t be fore mete 's end. Baccino was starting to show De cke r his fro nt wh eel, and he wai ted until th e last tu r n to make his move . Decke r wen t o utside to the be rm w hile Bacd no d ived inside to set up a drag race to a photo finish, w hich w as awa rded to Dec ker. In th e se co nd mo to , Low e nt hal took t he ea rly lead , ahea d o f Gr ee n and Dec ke r, w ith Search running fo urth . Search w as o n the move, ta king ove r third by t he end of the first lap and 50 again using his jumpi ng skills to sail ove r Green into second at the finish-line do uble. With two laps re maining, Se arch aga in took to t he air, taking th e le ad by jum ping o ver Low en th al. Dec ker was n't hap py with the fo urt h spot and passed Gree n on the white- flag lap. He caught up to the lead pair heading to the checke rs but w as unab le to make a move . D e cke r' s 1-3 moto finishe s gave him seco nd, and Lowe nthal took third with a 4-2 sco re . Baccino was unable to run w it h th e to p fou r t he sec o nd time out and got fourt h overall w ith 2-5 finishes. Gree n took fifth with a S-4 tally. Kawasaki-mou nted Do n McLean swe pt the Vet Over 30 Novice class, despite a tangle wit h Just in Leed s' MaximalVP-backed Ho nda in the first mo to . Dan Dalton grab bed the ho leshot o n his Yamaha but was passe d ea rly o n the first lap by Leeds and then McLean. Don Mclean took on the Senior Over 30 Novice class, the la te afternoon sun and a bent shift lever, and came away with double moto wins at the fourth round of the AMA Southern California Championship Motocross Series, a t Victo rville Motocross Complex. District 16 Hare Scra m b les Points Series Round 6 : CM) Raceway Friebel Fabulous at Hixton Hare Scrambles By GREG PETERS HIXTON WI, JULY 31 , T he r e we re many e ntrants fo r the sixth ro und of the District 16 Hare Scram bles Ser ies at Hixto n, Wisco nsin. In ge neral, racers thro ugho ut the day enjoye d a co urse that was not muddy or dusty . Kawasak i rider Mat He rringto n e arned the ho le sho t in the C division . Within a few laps, Herr ington had built a com mand ing lead o n his 39 competitors. At the end of the race, he was one minute and seve n seco nds in fro nt of seco nd place . Team 2 r ide r Devin Kro pp also had an im pre ssive rac e . O ut of a ll t he C -c1ass co m pe ti to rs, Kro pp got a t op -five s ta rt . However, he had tro ubles in a mud sec tion o n the mot ocross t rack and let num e rous racers pass. By t he woo ds se ctio n on th e first lap, Kro pp was ninth . For the remainder of the race , he t rie d to cat c h up t o H e r rin gt o n, b ut he finished second . Kevin Lidd icoat finished third , abou t one minute and IS seconds behind Kropp. Kawasaki rider Joe Hutt erer ob tained a to p sta rt in the B class . Alth o ugh he could n't ho ld the position, Hutt e re r concluded the race in a res pectable fifth. Th e main battle in the class w as be tw een Sco tt N icko li and Rob Ho ut s. Though Ho uts was able to maintain first place for most of the race , Nic kell nea rly caught up to him. At the con clusio n of th e race , Ho ut s de feated Nickol! by just 18 seconds. In the co mpe tit ive Over 40 d ivision , Suzuki rider Dan Finne l ea rn ed the hole shot, closely followe d by Dave Peters. Finnel drifted wide, forcing Pete rs off t he trac k. Q Uickly, Peters reente re d t he mo toc ross track an d gained t he a dvanc e pos ition by passing Finne l in t he whoops section.
