Barbe r tried to hold on, but Casey made his move on lap fou r. While Casey co ntinued to hold first, Barber was passed by Jose ph He rnandez and Mark Corsetti o n lap six. Casey took th e win, ove r Hern andez, Corsetti and Barbe r. Oanielle Diaz too k the holeshot in th e 80cc class. lack Nichols trie d hard to close the gap, but Oiaz held he r place and took first , followed by Nichols and Stephe n r-torales. In the seco nd heat of the 80cc class, Chad Case started th e race in front. w it h Tony Davila, Garrett Slat e and Michael Martin close be hind . Before that fate ful day, CALVMX staged what will most likely be one of the last races at the historic track . In Sportsman 500cc Inte rm e d iat e actio n, Husqva rna jo ckey james Keegan battled C Z rider John Lambert in a two -mot a duel for first overall. In mot o o ne, Lam bert a nd Keega n staged a racelong challenge for first place . After a seesaw batt le , Lambe rt took first, ahead of Keegan and Bultaco jockey Jeff O 'Brian. Mot o two 's start saw Keegan grab the lead heading over the first tabletop jump, followe d by Lambert and CZ-mounted Dave Carling. 8y lap three, Keegan open ed up a wide gap over the rest of the class. Lambert held on to second, w hile Car ling and O 'Brian dueled fo r t hird . Keegan's large lead secured him the overall win. Lambert clinched seco nd, while O'Brian slipped past Carling to take third ove rall. The longer-suspension machines of GP Two Nov ice re sult e d in a two -mota sw e e p by Yama ha-mou nt ed De rick Mart in. In t he first moto , Mart in established a command ing le ad over Yamaha rider John C1inkinbeard and Jame s Doyle, on a seldom-see n Montesa. With Martin far out in front , C1inki nbeard and Doyle sparred for second. At the checkers, Martin had an easy win. Clinkinbe ard prevailed for se con d, with Doyle in third. Mot o two saw Martin nabbing the holeshot. with the rest o f the class close be hind. This time , Hond a man Mike Stiles pursued Martin , followed by Clinkinbeard and Honda-mou nted jer ry Reyes .
