Charnbon was th ird, ahead of Gerald QilleRine and Max Manz0 . 'file Super Final saw van den Bosch pull the holeshot , with Lazzarini right behind him. Manzo also got a good start in third , followed by Hiemer. The race for the first two places neve r changed . Lazzarini tr ied his best , but while he want ed to fight for the win, a wrong tire choice forced him to race for a safe second place and thus co nserve his second place in the series standings as well. Chambo n came up from a very poor start again and had to work really hard to finish third. His Super Final was a neverending "slide show," as he struggled with a lack of rear grip. But thanks to the thirdplace finish, he is still leading the championship, with Lazzarini just three points behind and VdB third. Hiemer finished fourth in the Super Final, his best result this year. The other facto ry Husqvarna rider, Delepine , finished fifth , ahead of TM's Fabrice Guyot. Despite the bad luck and the bike problems, Seel worked super hard and came back from 12th to seventh, with his bike sliding more than necessary in the long, 24lap main event. He is now fourth in the standings. Seel also announced that he will probably enter the South Boston round of the AMA Supermoto Championship. 52 Before the season started , Max Verderosa was known for being really fast (he won the European and the Italian championships last year). Now, in the World Championship, he has proved to be even more than that by runningconsistent races through the first part of the series, and, after Sosnova, he is now leadingthe championship, as he took away the series lead from Jerome Giraudo with a big win in S2. The interesting race saw many riders "delivering the goods " at the event, starting in Saturday's timed practices where young French pro spect Fabrice Lecoanet took the pole. Verderosa was second quickest, and Giraudo was third quickest. Moto one was Lecoanet's show. He took total advantage of first spot on the grid and led the entire race. Verderosa was second off the start and stayed there until the end. Giraudo was third. The second moto was co mpletely different, as Giraudo started in front, followe d by yo ung British specialist Christian Iddon and Italian Fabio Balducci. Verderosa finished fourth, but his start wasn't good this time . Lecoanet completely missed the start and collected a dismal 10th place. In the Super Final, Giraudo got a perfect start, ahead of Verderosa, Iddon and Vertemati's Ivan Boano. The Aprilia rider see med to be headed for another GP win, but his bike wasn't up to the task. Giraudo pulled over with a broken engine on lap nine, the failure costing him the win and the lead in the points standings. A nightmare day for Aprilia was completed by another DNF for Bolley, who had suffered the same fate at round two in Romania. Giraudo's retirement left the door open fer Verderosa, who went on to win his first GP on a privateer machine . Second place went to Iddon, who worked hard to defend himself from Boano's attacks for most of the 24-lap Super Final. KTM's Lecoanet was fourt h, and Vor's Attilio Pignotti was fifth. Like Seel in S I, Husqvama's Davide Gozz inl had rear-suspension problems on his new Husqvarna, and after he went down hard in the dirt and twisted his right knee in moto one, the rest of the day was an exercise in pain. Gozzini fin ished ninth and he now sits fourth in the standings, behind Lecoanet , Giraudo and new leader Verderosa. The next round of the ser ies will be at the fast Sachsenring track in Germany on CN September 5. CZECH GP SoSONOVA, CZECH REPUBuc RESULTS: JULY 21,22, 2004 (ROUND 3) 5 I SUPERFINAL (14 1i1ps) : I.
