Floridian, but the '04 5upercross Champion just did n't have enough to mount a serious attack fo r the pos itio n. But even though Reed couldn' t catch Carmichael, he did stay ahead of Windham, which was im pressive considering Windham was the pre-race favorite. "It's a difficult track for me, with the traction and the up-and -down hills," Reed said. "I'm just happy to be here and go 2-2. Kevin has been great here be fore, and to be able to hold him at bay was good." And hold him at bay he did . In both motos, Reed was able to build substantial leads ove r W indham. "T he first moto, I was in an aw esome position, w ith these two guys [Reed and Carmichael] right in front of me," Windham said . 'And they we re able to open just a litt le bit up on me. It was kind of the same thing in the second moto, so I just kind of found myself in no man 's land, riding around in th ird . I hate when it [th e w in] gets away fro m me, but unfortunately tha t is what happened. " T he second moto was almost a carbo n copy of the first, except Carmichael got the holeshot and promptly checked out. Behind him was Reed in second, followed Ezra Lusk showed up at Washougal ready to race. Lusk has been out of action since the Supercross season and is just starting to get back up to speed. Luskbroke his leg and had to have some hardware installed."Y eah, I've got a rod and four screws," Lusksaid. 't\n d I'm lookingto get the screws out at the end of the season and go from there. " The rubber-snake-e n-fishing-line gag was back at Washougal. Last week at Troy the , Yamaha of Troyguyswere having fun with it. This weekend , the TeamGreen/WBRguys were having the ir fun scaring unsuspecting people as they walked around the pits. by Windham in third . Th roughout the entire moto, Carmichael continued to build his lead up ove r Reed, and by the end of the race the margin was around 40 seconds. Carmichael easily crossed the finish line to take the win and the overall ahead of Reed 's and Windham. Even though they wouldn't say it, disappointment could be seen on Reed's and Windham's faces. "It was a little less than stellar for me, " Windham said. "The last two times I've been he re, I've been able to win . It' s bee n nice, coming to a track you remember - that kind of stuff. 50 anything less t han first is kind of a letdow n. Today I was just struggling a littl e bit. " 't\1I around the track the fans were cheering us on , whether we're first o r second," Reed said . "It ' s a good feeling to know that pe ople ap preciate what you're doin g." eN WASHOUGAL MOTOCROSS P ARK WASHOUGAL, W ASHINGTON Ihsuus: AUGUST I , 2 004 (ROUND 8 Of 12) 250 MOTO I : I .
