"Cra zy jake " Tackitt, riding one o f Gayle Jenkins' RevLoc Hondas, sna red the Fast Time tro phy and mo ney with an exce ptional 4.217second run on his first ride in the 600cc class. His clo sest challenger was his "team mate" Bren t Bowma n, who carded a 4.265-second time on the second Jenkins bike , giving " Team Je nkins" the top two spots . The re was one sour note for the team, however: Tackitt decided to take a "free ride " after all the class had run in the second ro und and he had the w in locke d in. He landed hard off the second breaker on the rear wheel . and an incredible gr inding noise was heard - the Honda suffer ed seve re damage and wo uld not make it bac k fo r the Sunday run , putt ing jake on his o ld RM465 fo r that event. Some "free " rides can be quite expensive! Matt Pe te rs had a double -wi n evening, w inning the 4 50c c a nd 600cc Fou r-5t roke classes. Peters rides a KTM 3BO in the 4S0cc class, and he rode Butch Fetters' KTM 520 in the Four-Stroke class. His 4.90 1-second first round ride in the 4SOcc class stood up for the win, with Gordon Gree n running second on his KT M 360 with a 4.954-second run. Pe te rs posted a 4.936-second time on his first ride in the Four-Stro ke class. which did not hold up for the class win: jo hn Michael Goeke n flew his CRF4S0R over t he top in 4.653 seconds to take the class lead. Howeve r, Peters overtook him in the second round with a very qui ck 4. 54 1secon d run to claim the win. Mark. Schroeder had a good even ing on his sto ck-le ngt h YZ25 0. He took the win in the 250cc class wit h a 4.S69-second run, ove rtaking Jon C ree k, who had carded a 4.666 -second time on his RM2S0 . No rthern Cup Motocross Se ries Round 5: Pine Ridge Raceway ATHELSTANE, WI, JUNE 26 early 400 ride rs were treated to some fine racing at Pine Ridge Raceway for round five of the No rthern Cup Motocross Series. A 2003 Honda XR70R was also given away to one lucky winner through a drawing. as was a new trailer. Jere my Hackbarth from central Wisco nsin made the tre k north to domi nate the 125cc A, 250cc A and O pen classes. Hackbart h too k the opening-moto holeshot in the I25cc A class, ahead o f David Rock and jake La Coun t. Hackbarth quickly pulled away from the pack as Rock and La Co unt batt led it out fo r se co nd . La Co unt t ried to make his move on lap two but washed out over a jump, giv ing way to Roc k. Meanwhile , up fro nt , Hackbart h was unto uchable as he took the firstmo to win , ahea d of Da rby Fowler, who had worked his way aroun d Rock for seco nd. Roc k took third. Hackbart h re mounted and charged through the pack until he took the lead in the whoops on the last lap. "I had a good start," said Hackbart h of the secon d moto. "I was second, behind Rock, and then I went down in the S turns and slid out in a mud ho le. I d idn't t hink I would catch those guys, but I did." Hackbart h got the overall wit h a I- I tally. Fowle r (2-2) settled fo r second overall , and Wallace (4-3) nabbed th ird. Hackbarth went on to ace the 2SOcc A and Open classes. Nathan Sprang sprung out to a nice lead in the opening 2SOcc B mote, ahead of a fierce pack of riders. The heavy favorite to win the moto , Jake Dob br at z, was mire d w ay back in t he pack . Spra ng rounded out the first lap in first, m o re than 12 seconds ahead of his nearest compet itor. Dobb ra tz d od ged his way th rough b ikes , eventuallygetting into the to p five by halfway. "I got a rea lly good ho le sho t ," Sp ra ng commented, "and I kind of winged it through the comer, almost putting it down , and once I got straight, I pretty much took it fr om there.
