e xperienced Bonsignore , who jumped to the fro nt. Estelle rode orr Bonsignore's rear wheel for the last few laps but couldn't find a way by Bonsignore's jawa. A well-deserved victory went to Mean Gene, who was tired but very happy ! In the Scratch side of the program, many peopl e were eager to see how Estelle would do after his long layoff. In his first heat , he faced the current East Coast champ ion, Tommy "Gator" Sephton. When Sephton won the heat , the fans se nsed this might be a prev iew of the Scratch ma in. Other Scratch heat winners included Bonsignore, Parsons and Lee "The Destroyer" Baile y. Other second-p lace fin ishers who transferred to t he ma in were "Flyin' Bria n" Hollenbeck, Donholt and Mike Robinson. When the semis had bee n completed, the main had shap ed up nicely ; it would include Sephton , Parsons, Estelle, Robinson and Bailey . Unfortunately, when the tapes new on the final, Sephton made one of his "Gator " starts and ran away with it, making it a rather uneventful dash. Estelle capped o ff a so lid return by holding second, Parsons kept himself in the points hunt by staying in third , and Bailey en joyed a comfortable fourth place , ahead of Robinson, who had to contend with engine trouble. In Support B mayhem , last yea r 's New York State champ , Andy "Moto Boy" Pandich, wo n again, with Rochester's Scott Swinehart a close second. The Support A main was a real battle , with Adam Mittl scoring an impressive w in over Stefan laessig. battled for th ird. They finished with Budik out front, O 'Neal in seco nd, and Barnes in th ird . Savage and McKune were still in hot pursuit. It was a great race for bo t h Budik and Savage. " The track was awesome, " sa id Bud tk, adding that his strategy for the race was to "hold my own line, get a good start , ride my own race , and stay strong thr ough the whole moto. RMXA Spring Series Yampa Valley Spor' sriders Budik Conquers Craig By MICHELLE LARABEE CRAIG, CO, JUNE 26 at urday's race was just the beginning of a week end of fun. The Ya mpa Valley Sportsrid ers hosted two full days of racing to finish out the last two races of the RMXASpring Se ries. The largest class of the day was the 12Scc C class . Xt re me Performa nce /LSE Racing/GS3 Clothing/Scott Goggles/Mom & Dad-sponsored David Budik led the way for all 3S riders in both the morning and afternoo n motos. The morn ing mote began w it h a medic al hold from the race that had just run. The riders sat on t he line for abo ut 10 m inutes, the ir anxiety increasing. When the race finaJfy began, Budik got the holeshot. Nevin Barnes came out second, with Brad O 'Neal tra iling close behind in third. As they came around to finish out the first lap, the top three held their positions and started spread ing out. The real actio n started on the second lap. when O'Neal put pressure on Barnes as they cleared the step-ups.
