The dirt sect ion had to be w ate re d after practic e , so many of the Prestige riders decided to wai t until late in the lO-minute ses sion to qualify. In th e Midd leweigh t heat race , Kenneth McCart hy ju m pe d out int o t he lead , but Conlon q uickly m o ve d ou t in fron t , and he stayed there until the check ere d nag fell. The Middle weight final saw Conlon out in fro nt again, Th is time he took the holesh ot and never looked back. Gartne r too k the ho leshot, followed by Hartigan and Steven Flach . Dou g go t a bad start an d was in sixth place o n the first lap . Doug put his head down and sta rted charging , and by lap five he was in the lead and runni ng away from the local fast guys. Doug won by I I sec o nds at the finish. In the Ope n Exp e rt final, Do ug put on a supermoto clinic: He lap ped up to the sixthplaced rider in the field and was on the gas and backing it into almost eve ry tu rn o n the trac k.
