Doug Waif ran down Smith and Leederm an before start ing to track down the leader, Ho w el l. Dust in Conner, Jared link and Smith went bar to bar in sea rch of some faste r lines. Howell took the checkers solo, while it took the final leg to put Waif in second . passing Sedlmeier at the line. leederman , running strong in fourth , held o ff the lat e-race cha llenges o f Conne r. link, Smith, Shad MacNaughton , 8ria n Wager and Jim Davis ro unded out the top 10. In mot a two, " Luc ky " Rob Kavanaugh grabbed the holeshot and was ripping up Silver Springs terra firma to hold off link and Smith. Kevin Stro ng Jr. was next and looking rocksolid. but WaIf wa s on the prowl again, w ith Davis and Brett Bender bar to bar behind him. Ov er the big 10,OOO-galion tabletop , Link leaped into the lead , ahead of Kavanaugh, and Waif charged into third . Kavanaugh overshot the tab letop just 100 yards befo re the white nag, and then Link slinked it down right after the taking the white nag. Waif passed them bot h on his way to bigger game, and Smith had found his gro ove , too. Kavanaugh was back up a nd running in th ird , ahead o f Dav is and MacNaughton , whi le challenging Smith fo r second . Waif won the moto and sank his teeth into first overall with his 2-1 tally. Smith (7-2) was seco nd ove ral l. l e e d e r ma n (4- 6) , MacNaug hton (8- S) and Davis ( 10- 4) took home the rest of t he top-five overall honors. Conner (S-I I), Wager (9-9 ), Strong (I 1-8) . Kavanaugh (2 1-3) and Sedlmeier (3-22) proved you are never out of it by taking home top- 10 overall finishes.
