stroke wou ld have been my best choice. As it turned out with the muddy condi- tions, it was absolutely perfect . Finding traction would have been hard on anything else . All I had to do was let the moto r rev." Barber, who won two of day two's special tests, said, "O hio mud is usually tough for me . It took a while [yesterday] just to get used to it. Today things went better. DUring the first four tests I was chippin' away at moving up [from his fourth-place finish after day one]. Then at the start of the final motocross test, I clipped a guy and went down. "I went from third to last just like that," Barber said. "That test should've been one of my strongest tests for the wee kend, and I was really looking forward to it. But instead I got stuck back in the pack:' In the final motoc ross special test, Jarrett and Kanney easily finished 1-2 in Class 2, with over 30 seconds to spare over the third-place rider, Kyle Nelson , who finished ninth overall. "Just before the start of the final 'cross test , Jimmy and I saw the scores from one of the day's earlier test ," Kanneysaid. "We found ourselves finishingover 100 seconds down from the test 's winner. It was obvious there had been some kind of scoring proble m, but we we ren't sure how it was going to be scored. So we just went for it: ' "When I ran o ut of gas on day o ne, it was pre tty much over for ,. me ," Jarrett said. "But I didn't want Nate to get screwed out of a top finish just because of a scoring error. I got the holeshot, and we were off: ' Bad luck fell upon TM rider Rodney Judson , who dropped out on day two just one test and a check away from the finish. Judson had been running as high as fifth overall when his bike seized just a few miles from the end. "We'd been having pro blems with a broken spark arrestor all week when the pack ing would plug off the exh aust," Judson said. ''At the start of every test or at every gas stop , I had to stop and ream out the muffler with a stick just to unplug it. By Sunday it started to take its toll, and the motor finally seized" The AMA will announce this year 's ISDE team on July I.
