Z ~ ~ ~ :'i ~ ~ Chris Johnson & Poul Stim son, on their EML·Honda (4) lead eventua l winners Allen & Bryan Wenzel (2) at the fourth round of the AMA Western National Sidecar MX Series in Milford, California. teams yet assem bled at a round this year. Longt ime Sidec ar rac e rs Chris Johnso n a nd Paul Stimso n came from Los Angeles and showed they are conte nde rs at any event they attend. The duo too k the ir older EMl- Honda CRSOO to holeshots in both motes, surprising everyone including current champions Malcolm Upfield & Pat Holmes , on their EMl -jumbo 7S0cc TwoStroke Twin! At the drop of the gate, the team of johnson & Stimso n bo lted out to an early lead as they charged up Honey Lake's uphill sta rt straight. The y go t to t he t urn first , w ith Upfie ld & Holmes just behind them and the Wenzels not far back. The clever team of Dave Hen nessy & jim Vietti used their VMC-Zabel to get a gre at start; more importantly, they were better set up to drive off from the first tum, as the three leading team s sw ung wide at the e nd of the straight. He nnessy & Vietti too k con trol of the 40th AnniVl'rc; r-u lead at that point, but it was short -lived, as they misjudged the ir en try speed e nteri ng a later co r ner and t ip ped the outfit over. A litt le furt he r back were Richard & Rick Myers , on their EML-Kawasaki, and the new team of Chris Wilkes & Rolf Gree nhill, on thei r EMl -Honda. Fem ale drive r Ch rist ine Makyne n and Glenn Sible y followed t he rest up the hill on their Wasp-Yamaha outfit. Afte r Hennessy & Vietti's tip-over, Joh nson & Stimson too k over the lead and held on to it until Upfield & Holmes used their horsepower to dr ive past them on the Honey lake uphill. No t long after, the Wenzel brothers worked their way past, and Myers & Myers were hot on everyone's heels as we ll. In another lap, the Wenzel bro t hers had mo ved past Upfie ld & Holmes and taken over the lead, which t hey held until the finish, with Upfield & Holmes in second, Johnson & Stimson in third, and Mye rs
