Sjostrom Soars to Victory

J. Sjostrom was t he big winner o f t he
hree-day eve nt at Starwest, tak ing home
three titles in the 125cc Intermed iate Stock and
Modified and Schoolboy divisions. It looked like
Casey Hinson might be a threat to Sjost rom ,
but afte r a first-lap crash, Hinson played it safe
and sat out the next two motos. Arizona rider
Bryan Ehrman made his journey worthwhile, as
he was able to finish second, behind Sjostrom,
in both Intennediate classes.
Cody Tithof scored t he overall wins in the
125cc Novice Stock and Modified divisions.
Louis Parker to o k home the t it le in t he
125cc Stock Beginne r class afte r so me tough
competition from Brandon Veik. However, Ve ik
wou ld return and claim the title in the 125cc
Beginner Modified class.
T he t hre e - mo te fo r mat gave t he crowd
many chances to see some of the top Miniriders
in the country go to war. The Team Green riders
were in the house and ready to race . The 85cc
Stock ( 12- 13) and Modi ied ( 12- 13) titles went to
f
the one and ontyJake Canada, but not witho ut a
fight fro m his tea mmate Micha e l Hall. The
younger division saw Nick Paluzzi battling Blake
Baggett; Paluzzi nabbed the 85cc Stock (7·1 I)
win. Shawn Gritten won the Modified class.
In the 6Scc classes , Paluzzi was again able to
ho ld off Bagget t for the Mo dified -class w in,
taking all three mota victories . Bagg was able
ett
to grab the Stock-class win.
Dan ie l Paluzzi was Impressive. as he took
the titles in the 65cc (7-9) Stock and 65cc (7-9)
Modified classes.
Gunnar Bigge rstaff held on to his points lead
in the series, as he too k the 50cc (7·B) t-loditled class w in, with local favorite Brandon Jones close
behind in second. Little superstar Blake Green
came out to play and grabbed two titles, in the
SOcc (4·6) Stock and Modified classes. Brandon
Scha rer held on to his points and t itle in t he
Super Pee Wee class. Scharer hasn't missed a
race , t raveling to each even t and beati ng any
conten de r to maintain his honors in this class.
T he weekend ended w ith a ll champions
rece iving 6-fo ot trop hies and all par ticip ant s
going homes with a trophy or plaque, and many
prizes we re given out by FMF and Alpinestars.
