S
uzuki-mo unte d O regon ian Adam Metzler has churned out
impressive wins t hroughout the Northwest. and he d id so
again on this da y. Metzle r tr ounced the competition in th ree classes - th e 125cc, 250cc and Before The Hill Intermediate classe s -
du ring CMC Moto cross actio n at Albany Moto rspo rt s Park,
accomplishing the onl y such feat in the day 's raci ng program,
which dre w more than 300 riders from six Western states . Metzler went six for six in moto victor ies: his closest compe titors
w er e Washingto nians Keith Batt erso n and Travis Farmer. Neither
rider, though , cou ld co me anywhere close to stopping Metzler's
impr essive pe rformances .
Metzle r 's first w in came in the day's opening mote, where the
15-year-old from Gaston grabbed the lead and never loo ked bac k.
Garret Melton initially trailed Metzler until Farme r got around
Melton and set his sight on Metz ler. However, Metzler had too
much of a good thing going for him up fro nt, and he eas ily won.
Farm er, Batterson , Nic Wolfe r and Robert Wu llbrandt rounded
out the top five.
Metzler got a poor start in mota two. Farmer, riding a Honda
C RF450R, held com mand for seve ral laps before Metzler's forward
surge th ro ugh th e field saw him cat ch and ult imately overtake
Farmer for the lead two laps fro m the finish. Metzler easily won
both motes, followed by Farm er (2-2) and Batt erson (3-3).
Try as he may, Batterson cou ldn't derail Metzler in the 12Scc
Interm ed iate class. Riding a Suzu ki RM250F, Batterson co uld only
watch from a distance as Metzler sped on to vict ory.
Metzle r 's mo t o - o ne pe rfo r ma nce w as d uplicated in the
second mota as well . Batterson ran so me 10 seco nds back of
Metzler and finished second overall , ahead of Wolfer, Matt Fouts
and Wullbrandt.
Metzl e r' s day wa s co mp lete after a total dom ination of the
250cc Inte rm ed iate class. Metzler go t o ff the line poo rly in the
first mota, but he had plenty of time to spare: Mer a sixth-p lace
start, the Suzuki rider picked off numerous riders on the first two
laps and then go t aro und Farme r to pos t th e victory.
Metz ler and Farm er again placed one-two in the second mo to
to net the to p overall pos itions. Metzler ( I- I), Farmer (2-2), Daniel
Harris (3-3), Brandon Kentn er (4 -4) and Eric Stevenso n (5-5) filled
