Eve ryth ing was done by I I : 15 p.m. O ne child stood out this w eek . He has race d all t hro ugh th e winter at the Ch owchi lla Bam bumer Se ries, and he 's contested the Eddie Mulder even ts and supe rmo tard eve nts as we ll. His dad . a single paren t, makes every effort to get him to the races . Polite and well-mannered. Mi chael Avila gives raci ng his best effort. T his youngster perform s we ll in school . too. Th e g r e en n ag d ro pped , and t he 80cc Expert race sta rted . Avila took the lead o n the first lap. Riding last and hard aboa rd his stock Ho nda 80 sponsored by Tulare Honda, AAA RV, and Do nnie and Usa Harrell, Avila rode a gre at r ace. Ridin g at Chow chill a during the w int er gave Avila the edge he needed to be a Irontru nne r in t he d ist r ict po int s race (ro m the beg inning of the Dist rict 36 se ries th is yea r. About three -q uarte rs through the race , a cras h betw een turns one and tw o dr ew a red flag. On t he single -file resta rt , Avila jum pe d into the fron t again and ro de to the finish leadi ng the pack. Stewart Barbe r Jr. also gave us the fans thei r money's worth this week. Bar be r finished first in the Pro -Am event and was back on the track lo r the O pen A co ntest. Ge tt ing the ho leshot, Barb e r led t he pack into t he first turn of th is eve nt . It w asn't long be fore Mark Corsetti w as right o n his back wheel. Tum after tum , Barbe r and Corset t i b att led , b ut Ba r ber had jus t enough edge to stay out in fro nt. During the last lap, Corsetti skililully got under Barbe r co ming out of turn three. Corsetti we nt high in fo ur, and Barb e r again took the lead. They went at it lull-thro tt le to the finish, and Corsetti nipped Barbe r by inches at th e line . In the Vet C event, Gordon Ginno was the le ade r on t he fir st la p . D an n Mos e r, in t he second spot , was battling w ith Ginno , trying to take his place. Beh ind th em, C harles Fabiani III wa s gaining gro und . Gin no and Moser traded positio ns fo r the fro nt spo t . The n Fabiani and Ginno trad ed pos itio ns for t he second spo t . Ul t ima t el y, G inno w e nt hig h in t u r n two , allowi ng Moser to take the lead. Fabiani caught and passed him to finish th is o ne first . Greg Riddle finish ed t he Vintage A event first , and Ronald Knight was first to the checkers in the Vet A eve nt. W ill iams stayed close t o Davenpo rt , and the two ran away (ro m the rest of the field. Davenpo rt gained abo ut a second per lap on Williams as the race raged on . Williams we nt down in the Scorner and was not a facto r in this me te . Bo rges got a roun d Panzer qui c kly, but Dave n po r t had alread y jum pe d out to a healthy lea d. Pilgrim was also able to ge t arou nd Panze r and was runn ing th ird . Dave n port took control and st retched o ut his lead whi le the others were battling lo r the final podi um spots. Dave npo rt took th e w in and t he overall with a I-I ta lly . Borge s (32 ) took second in the mo t o and overall. Pilgrim (5-3) finished with a nice third for th ird overall. Scott Bostw ick absconded with the holeshot in t he 125cc Inte rmed iat e class , wi th Dustin Mo ses and D usty A rg yle lo oki ng ove r his shoul de r. Argyle sq ueeze d und e r Moses and Bostw ick lor the lead. Daniel johnson and Cha d jo rgense n were slicing quickly thro ugh the pack and so o n fo und th e m se lve s c ha si ng d o wn Argyle. The three pu lled away Irom t he pack, with johnso n act ing as Argyle's shadow for the res t 01 the moto. Argyle held 01 johnson lo r 1 the win, with jo rge nse n tak ing third. joh nson show ed tha t he co uld do more than 40th Anniversary just run dow n the lead ers by gra bbing the lead in mo to tw o and letting the othe rs try to chase him down. jo hn so n slowly eased away from jorge nse n and Argyle as the thre e ra n away from the pack. jo hnso n too k the win and the ov erall w ith a 2- 1 tally. jo rgen sen (3-2) w as second in t he moto and th ird overall , jus t behi nd Argyle ( 1-3). Cam e ro n O lsen show ed he was the man to beat in the 12Scc junio r class. O lsen had a big lead in the first mo to but tipped over on the last lap and hande d the win to Andrew Brisk. The second mo to fo und O lsen lea ding fro m start to finish. O lse n (4- 1) too k the overall , with john Riggins (3-2) second and Tre Heiner (2-3) third.
