Ca lvin Whipple, aboar d his KTM SX 125. earned top honors in t he Ama te ur class with first o ve rall and first 125 cc Amate ur. The Suzuk i rider took full adva ntage of Dixie Mini kingpi n Jo dy Cook's absence an d bagged a trio of wins for himself. Brow n sco red a pe rfect six out of six mo to wins in the 85 cc ( 12- 15), Supermini and Y uth ( 12- 15) classes. o In t he firs t 8 5 cc ( 12- 15) rnoto, jonathan Wood fin pushed his RM hard and clea red the C anyo n ju mp on every lap, bu t leade r Bro wn steadily pulled away fo r the w in. D 84 Bell sho rt ened McDaniel's margin o f victory in the ra ce but was still 13 seconds ad rift at the checkers. Edwards ran third but then bailed off over a ta bletop and re gistered a DNF. Knox ran as h igh as seco nd be fo r e dropping back to fourth and losing th ird o ve rall to Brad. Cole Jackso n im p ro ve d a no tch t his t im e o ut and finished fifth. T he ra ci ng action at ro und o ne o f the DC Shoes Series was nonstop , from the Pee We es to the Pro s. jeff Ward , Brandon Ward and Ayrton Ward made their family racing day a successful o ne . In t he firs t 2 50cc Pr o moto , je ff gra bbed t he hole shot, w ith Do nnie Gritton, Mike La Paglia an d Justi n Bucke le w fo llowi ng. T he fir st few laps were very intense , as Gritt on and La Paglia passed each o ther several times. allowing Jeff to pull away. La Paglia. an Intermediate riding o n t he sa me gate as the Pro s, pu lle d o ff on lap t h ree . By t he e nd o f that la p , jeff ha d a co m fo rt able lea d on Gr itton an d Bucke le w. Buckelew was third in the first moto but came out swi nging in the seco nd stan za . Jeff gra b bed a nother ho le s hot , bu t t h is time Buckelew was right the re . Buckelew made his first pass in the whoo ps be fore the green flag was out. Jeff answered back with a pass of his own, and he bro ught Gr itton w ith h im . Th e crowd was on its fe e t and c hee ring for t h is exciting battle. Unfo rtu nately fo r jeff, Buckelew m ad e a final pass and sta rted p ulling away. Gritton was all over Jeff, and they banged bars more tha n a fe w t im e s. but neither r ider seemed to m ind. In th e end , Buckelew was all smiles as he won t he o vera ll, fo llo w e d by Gritton and Jeff. It was a great way to sta rt o ff th e series. Ayrt on topped his dad 's finish with a I-I for the day in the Pee We e (4 -6) class. He ha d a perfect day, getting two holeshots and pu lling away in bo th motos.
