he fourth round of the American Amateu r Racer National
Championship Series got under way at Sandia Mot ocross
Park. Located just outside of the capital of New Mexico, Sandia
was a nice change of environment for the racing circu it . The track
was fast, but the riders were up for the challenge .
Local favorites Bryan Ugon and Zach Dyer went to war in the
12Scc Intenned iate Modified and Stock classes . In the first moto
of the 12Scc Intermediate Mod ified class. Dyer grabbed the
holeshct. followed by Bubba Irwin. Ligon qu ickly made his pass on
Irwin and then set his Sights on Dyer. After two laps. Dyer was
under pressure. w ith Ligon attached to his back tire like glue .
Comi ng into a tum, Ugon too k the outsi de and railed the tum and
took over the lead. Ligon then pulled away. setting some of the
fastest lap times all day. Ligon took the win , followed by Dyer and
Irwin.
In the ne xt moto, Dyer again nailed the holesho t. Ligon .
however, got caught up in a first-tum pile-up. Ugon tried to make
his way to the front, but ano the r mist ake se t him back . Dye r
eas ily took the win. followed by Jeff Maley and Robert Foster.
Dyer took the overall win. followed by Ligon and Maley.
Ligon would re turn to claim th e overall victory in the 12Scc
Stock Interm ed iate class.
The most exci ting r acing of th e we ekend was between Jake
Canada and Cory Dry. Th ese two battl ed in eve ry on e of the ir
moto s. Ca na da too k t he o ve r all wins in th e 85 cc
( 12- 13) Stock. BScc ( 12- 13) Mod ified and 85cc Open classes. Dry
didn't go home empty-hande d. though, as he was able to ta ke the
title in the Supermini class.
Eli Tom ac was also a multiple-class win ner. in the 8Scc (7-11)
Modified, 65cc (10- 11) Mod ifie d and 6Scc O pen classes. Daniel
Paluzzi was able to grab two overa ll wins, in the 6Scc (7-9) Stock
and Modified classes . Californ ia's Brandon Scharer was o n fire.
taking the overall w in in the Super Pee Wee class. Kyle Rob inson
took home the gold in the SOcc (7-8) Modified class , while
Tren ton Fegan came down fro m Colorado t o claim the Stock
class.
