My 15 OWN RACE David Pearson 5th David Pearson ran a cons istent race . "The start was good ; I was about seventh or eighth," Pearson said of his race . ':About halfway through, I was fifth and 20 seconds or so behind Destry. The last few laps, I started picking it up, and I caught up to Destry on the last loop and rode in his dust . I just couldn't get by him. There were places to pass, but some of the lines that were developed made it questionable if it was cheating or not . I thought the track was awesome, and it was nice to have some diverse terrain for a change." Kellon Walch I Ith Kellon Walch didn't mind the dust, but he was slowed down by fading brakes . '" got pushed outside the track on the start," Kellon Walch said. "Once I got out there, it was just a total ly different course from yeste rday. It took a few laps to get used to all the new lines. It [the course] was getting chewed up pretty bad, and I kept overheating the rear brake. I eventually lost the rear brake, which cost me a few positions. I'm a desert racer so the dust was great! " 129 Bobby Bonds 6th Bonds spent the day making up for a bad start. "I knew it would be hard to pass, so I really wanted to get out front on the start," Bonds said. "That backfired when this dude just came right into me . Our bikes were tangled together, and it took some time to sort that out . I was dead last , as last as it comes. Actually the MX track was the place to pass: If I couldn't get around someone, I would just run into them. I'm sure' didn't make any friends today, but you gotta do what you gotta do . The rocks were horrible . I knew I would have to go through some of this making the change to riding off-road :' Destry Abbott 4th Destry Abbott finished out the day in fourth but admitted that he didn't feel quite up to his usual stuff. "I think I was sixth on the start," he said. "Things worked out quickly with Russ going down , and I got by Caselli and into third. When I pitted at the halfway point , Russ passed me , and I tried to stay with him but ended up about three seconds behind him. My balance was a little off today, and I kept hitting trees. The bike worked good; I just wasn't riding that well. I wasn't standing up enough. I had fun, though!"
