of the first lap . Scanlon and Haffner began a
race-long, paint-swapping, bar-banging contest
in pursuit .
Crayton had to face Youngsville, Lo uisiana,
ace Chad Dubroc in the 125cc O pen class, but
he ran away from tha t class in the first mo to as
well when D ub ro c went down on the bac k
straigh t. The real batt le was for second place,
as Loranger's Broc Andre battled Bergeron and
Haffner, but that's the order they se ttled for,
w it h D ub ro c finishing a close fifth at the
checkered flag. Be rge ron got the holes hot in
the second mota but could n't hold Crayton off
for long. Crayton put an exclamation po int on
his lead with a nice tail wh ip at the tab letop
jump, right in front of the crowd. Dubroc was
on the move from third spot; he quickly moved
into second, and the chase was on! Suddenly,
Dubroc's bike started popping and sputtering,
and he had to settle down into second place.
Crayton extended his lead all the way to the
vict ory. with D ub ro c finish ing seco nd an d
Be rgeron third .
Charles Ellis came all the way from Long
Island, New York, to contest the Money classes .
He took the early lead in the Open Money
class , followed by St . Amant's Trent
"Cannonball" Cannon, on his Bardwell Yamaha.
Behind them raged the "battle of the brothers,"
Malcolm Upfield & Pat Holmes (1) lea d Allen Wenzel & Bryan Wenzel (2)
and Dave Hennessy & Jim Vietti in the first mota at round two of the

o metimes all it takes is a little motivation to
inspire a superb performance from a wellhoned Sidecar MX team . In this ease, it was the
team of New Mexico's own Dave Hennessy &
Jim Vietti's taking delivery of their newer YMCZabel Sidecar MX outfit that did the trick. They
looked fantastic at the second round of the AMA
Western National Sidecar MX Championship,
the event hosted by "Diamond Don" Rainey and
Francene DePrez in historic Jefferson, Texas .
Hennessy & Vietti took the new rig out in practice to get used to it, and by the second moto
they led the field, taking the overall win for the
day. Defen ding champions Malcolm Upfield &
Pat Holmes kept the duo honest with a welldeserved second place on the ir EML
-Jumbo outfit. A new team comprised of Indiana's Brian
Borshoff & Colorado's Curtis Hager took the ir
S
EM L-Honda to an amazing third overall in their
first time out on a motocross sidecar, and it
looked like they en joyed every minute of it!
Mota o ne started w it h the snap of the
rubber-band starting gate, and the pack charged
toward the sweeping right- hand corner. Upfie ld
& Holmes got there fir st , with the Wenzel
brothers , Allen & Bryan, in tow on the ir EMLMTH sidecar. Hennessy & Vietti took up the
third spot, with Richard & Rick Myers r ight
-Kawasaki.
be hind them on their left-hand EML
Borshoff & Hage r took the first turn of their
first Sidecar MX caut iously.
As the team s charged into the tree-lined
section of the racetrack, the Wenzel brothers
harassed Upfie ld & Holmes. This situation
lasted for another two laps, until the Wenzels
dived inside of a dr ifting Upfie ld & Holmes,
taking over the first spot. From the re on , the
posltlons solidified, w ith the Wenzel brothers
taking the mota w in, followed by Upfield &
Hol m e s . Hennessy & Vietti pl ac e d third ,
obviously coming to t e r ms w ith their new
VMC -Zabel outfit . Myers & Myers finished
fourth , and ne wc o me rs Borshoff & Hager
finished fifth.
Moto two started off with the same snap of
the rubb er band, but the positions were
certainly different than in the fist moto. Myers &
Myers got the ir Et-tt-Kewasak! to the tum first,
followed by Hennessy & Vietti and then Upfield
& Ho lmes. Bors hoff & Hager had certainly
picked up the speed in their second moto, as
they started to get the hang of this sport. Myers
& Myers ' lead was short-lived, as Hennessy &
Vietti and Upfield & Holmes stormed past and
into their own private battle as the track twisted
into the trees . QUite simply, it was Hennessy &
Vietti's day, as they led every lap of the second
moto, taking the overall win for the day on their
new rig. Upfield & Holmes took the second
spot, with Bo r sh o ff & Hage r taking third ,
displacing Myers & Myers, whose EML-Kawasaki
outfit so ured as the race continued.
