ride r from Keizer, Oregon, clobbered the competition in the
very co mpetitive O ve r 2S cla ss , show casing his newly
revitalized speed by to pping a good-sized field of former Pro
riders in a 2- 1 win of the class. O n the day, Williams was a
three-mota winner: He swe pt both 125cc Pro/Inte rme diate
Ijunior motos and won the first Over 2S mota. Doug McKuhn
won the second mota, but a Sixth-place first-mota finish left the
rider from Newport, O regon, stranded with fourth overa ll.
Ainslie , a veteran AMA Western Fou r-Stroke National
contender, has shown flashes of brilliance during the past two
years since he's made the step up to the Professional ranks.
Although the Pro classes were a bit down in numbers , Ainslie
thumped to the head of the pack in the first combined 2SOcc
Pro/ Intermediate mota, but he found he had tough competition,
in the form of Oregon 's Guy Tow. On e of a handfulof dominant
Intermediate riders in the Northwest, Tow got th e best of
Ainslie in both motos. Ainslie got the jump on the field in both
motos , although Tow moved past the Yamaha rider each time
out and in the end narrowly won. Robert Wullbrandt performed
well in the first mota , trailing Tow and Ainslie to garner the
overall 250cc [umc r-d ass win after a second -place finish in his
class in mota two . R.O. Hall finished ahea d of Wullbrandt in
moto two , but a sixth-place performance in the opening moto
aided in Wullbrandt's overall win.
Ainslie and Tow we nt head to head in the Before The Hill
class, which we re the opening motos of the day's program. Tow
got th e bette r o f Ainslie in mot o one, but the o rde r was
reversed t he seco nd time out, in favor of Ainslie , whose 2- 1
finishes earned t he rider from Longview, Washing to n, th e
overall win. Wullb rand t and another o f the many
Washingto nians on hand . Jacob Wo od. dodged eac h others '
ro ost during the two junio r-class motos, but it was Wood's
second-mota effort tha t derailed Wullbrand t's hopes of two
overall wins on the day.
