Another Impressive perfo rmance came (rom O regon's Adam
Me tz ler. Regard ed 3 5 o ne of the We st Coast 's p remier
Inte rmediate ride rs. Metz ler re plicated Currie r's pe rfect tally by
also dominating two classes. MetzJer fended off several of th e
to p ride rs from t hroug hou t the No rth west . including Idaho 's
Sam DeAtley, to top the I25cc and 250cc Intermediate classes
on the high desert.
Metzler's first of two overall wins came in the co mb ined
250cc jun ior/lntermediate classes. Metzler had Sam and local
Yamaha rider Brandon Kentne r to con tend with , but it was the
top-placing junior rider, Erik Me usJing, who grabbed the initial
lead in moto one. The Intermediate tr io - Metz ler. Sam and
Kenmer all dropped Meusling back seve ral pos itions by mota 's
e nd.
Mot a tw o was much th e same , as Metz ler co ntro lled th e
te mpo of the race early on and, at the completion of six laps,
came away with a 1- I ove rall win. Sam (2-2) and Kentne r (3-3)
trailed . Me usling con tinue d his dominance of th e Junior class
with a dual-moto sweep of the junior class, ahead of Zach Tail
(2-3), Kyle Taylor (5-2), Brad Batche lor (3-4) and Lee Slater (45).
Among the select few dou ble-class winners on the day was
Kawasaki rider Wes Baughman. Rid ing a KX250F, Baughma n
won the l25cc and Before The Hill jun ior classes. Altho ugh the
ride r from nearby Bend, O regon, failed to win all four motes, he
did use 1-2 and 2- 1 tallies to top the two classes . Meusling won
th e first 125cc Junior mot a , but a second-mote DNF allowed
Baugh ma n to w rangl e the ov erall win, fo llow ed b y Kev in
Pet ruch kin (4- 3) and anothe r of the many KX250F riders in the
fie ld, jonathan McGilivray, w hose 6-2 finishes netted him third
ove rall.
