year whe n they last met in Washou gal.
Musgrave , a Riverside Chapter member, led off
Sunday's first mota, getting the ho leshot and
never looking back. Sierra's McKenna stayed
close but co uld not ge t close enough to pass
Musg rave . The moto ended with Musgrave
first , McKenna se co nd , an d Sierra 's Shawn
Hybarge r kee ping the m bo th honest in th ird .
Wit h ea ch having two wins, the final moto
wo uld decide t he ove rall winne r. Musgrave
roared out of the gate and, tap ping some inne r
reserve, increased his lap times and open ed a
siz a b le le ad o ver Mc Kenna and, afte r 22
minutes of great action, won moto number five
and the overall victory. McKenna was second,
and Hybarge r was third .
At the othe r end of the scale , in the Over 70
Expert class, Sie rra ride r Gene Hrobsky took
the overall win after a tough four-moto battle
with Max Goode. O n Saturday, Tony Armada
and Gene "Higgi" Higginbot ham played their
usual game of cat -and-mouse for third overall,
with Higgi doing better in bo th motos. Armada
had the last laugh on Sunday, bettering Higgi in
both mo tos and taking the final podium place .
Pat Smith of Idaho was the big winner in the
Ove r 50 Expe rts . Jer ry Winkelbaue r of Sierra,
sporti ng his number-one plat e for last year's
cha m pio nship in th e clas s, had so me clo se
racing w ith his ne mesis , O reg oni an Jimmy
Harris, but it was Harr is who came in second
overall . Tim Kennedy of Arizona placed th ird
with fo ur firsts and an I Itho and Winkelbauer
placed fourt h.
Don "Re con'' Ro hmann, racing w ith the
team from Sierra, really put it to the Over 40
Experts. He seems to be bucking for Master
statu s. O rego nian Rod Huds o n was a strong
secon d overall, and Arizona's Monry Sears was
third . Watch out for Paul Armada (fony's son) .
who placed fourth overall; He had some flashes
of speed on a borrowed Yamaha 450 in mo tos
four and five, nabbing the holeshot in bot h and
making Rohmann catc h up. Maybe the re will be
two Masters.
Afte r ro und two in Palmdale, round th ree
will be he ld April 3 and 4 in Porterville.
