O n lap three, Lipscomb miscue d and disappeared fro m the lead pack. "Yeah, I sta lled my bike over the finish-line double trying to slow down to catch the inside line , so I had to work my way back fro m last place ," Lipscomb said. On the same lap, Pete rso n made a pass stick o n Schulhof, and Lipsco mb 's miscue allowed Pete rson t o inherit second place . By m id rac e , Burst had a bo ut a six-second lea d . It appeare d Bu rs t wa s ti ring, but he wa s riding o n a flat t ire . Peterson cha rge d the last three laps to get close , but he was edged o ut at the checkers. The final running order was Burst , Pete rson, Stuen . Kendall Stanley and Schulhof. In the second moto, Burst again gra bbed the holes hot and qu ickly opened up a three-second lead, followed by Schulhof, Peterson , Stuen and Lipscomb. By the third lap, Burst had widened the gap to nine seconds. Peterson moved into second. The real battle was a three-way clash among Stuen , Lipscomb and Mike Tucker for fourth. less than a second separated the three as they freight -trained around the trac k. Tucker got around both Stu e n and Lipscomb late in the race to secure fourth . The final runn ing order was Burst , Pe te rson, Schulhof, Tucker and Stuen. Ove rall, th e t o p five were Burst ( I- I), Pe terso n (2 -2) , Schulhof (5-3), Stuen (3-5) and Tucker (7-4). "This is the first time I've had a chance to take my new RM out on a fast, o ld- sc hoo l-sty le mo tocross track," Pe te rso n commented . " It de finitely impressed me.
