T
he GFI Winter Series Showdown was actually far from a " North vs. South" showdown , as only a handful of "sout he rn" riders
made an appearance. Howeve r, a pair of seasoned Pros, Michael Brandes and Rusty Hclland, showed up and had a showdown of their
own at the Oatfield Raceway. Brandes , aboard
a BR-I ·backed Kawasaki, aced both 125«
motes, while Holland walked away with the
overall win in the 250s via a 2-1 effort.
Brandes dominated both I25cc matos, and
though Holland lurked close behin d at times ,
Bra ndes never gave him an oppo rtu nity to
challenge and finished up with a pair of flawless
motos under his belt .
The most drama came in the second 250cc
Pro mota, as Brandes had won mota one and
was looking for a complete sweep on the day.
Holland , piloting a C lawson Motorsports/Pro
Circuit/Thor/Smith-backed Honda, had other
plans, and he grabbed the ho leshot, ahead of
Brandes and T im Weigand. Though he kept
Brandes at bay, Holland knew that one mistake
could make the difference - and fo rt unat e ly
that mistake was made by Brandes, who came
into a quick left-bander a little too hot and
tucked the front end . Holland took advantage
of the situat ion and motored on for the win.
ahead of Cory McDaniel and Weigand.

effort on the day. Cu rtis Roe, who has really
come alive in tile series, followed up with a
pair of solid second- place rides. In fact, Roe
topped t he 25 0cc Inte rmediates . be st ing
Morrison's 1-6 score w ith a 2-3 effort on the
day, which pro ved good enough for the overa ll.
Yuba City's Brad Kelly toughed it out to a
well- deserved win in the 125cc Schoolboy
class, posti ng a pair of aces over Greg Fouts ,
who finished out the day with a 2-2 score.
Ross Thre e t and Justin Posey beste d th e
Novice ranks. Thre e t rode to a per fe ct 1·1
score in the 250s , and Posey piloted his
Y
amaha to a class-winning 1-2 tally in the 125s.
Dustin Enochs and Bla ke Ju m p found
success in the Supermini and Bflcc Ncvlce
cla sses , respect ively. Enochs a ced the
Supermini motos, while Jump ( 1· 1) leaped out
front in both motos for the Novice win on the
day.
