Wiggins, Mississippi 's Na th an Dave npo rt sw ept the 25 0cc A cla ss on Sat urday. On Sunday, he wen t down early in the 125cc A Pro Sport contes t but got back up and fought his way back up to second. Chad Ward took t he earl y lead, in front of Cypress, Texas' Charies Castloo and Covingto n, Lo uisia na 's Bla ke Ken nedy. By t h e second la p , Ward had e xten ded his lea d to five seconds , w hi le Castloo battled Ke nnedy. Dave nport was on fire, passing three rider s at o nce on the third lap, but couldn't ove rcom e Ward 's lead. These ride rs delighted the fans in the se cond mota, when Ward and Daven port dash ed out to an early lead. Davenport won, taking the overall. Ward was ru nner-up in the mo ta and overall. Kennedy (4- 3) fin ished t hi r d, in front o f Castloo (3-4) and Vinemont, Alabama's John Boy Monk (5-5). Ward got his Honda out front in the first 250cc A Pro Sport moto, followe d by Monk, Castloo, Dave npo rt and Ken nedy. Davenpo rt passe d Cas t loo fo r third at th e Hntsh-Hne double. By that time, t he braking bumps we re turning the throttle jockeys into bro nc busters . Wa rd lo oked sm oo t h as he le d the race , squaring off high turns and skimming across the dee p ru ts , but o n t he th ird lap Ward got tang led wit h a lappe r and took a so il samp le. Mon k snatched t he lead an d t he first-moto victory. Ward re mo unted quickly to finish in front of Davenpo rt and Kennedy. Ward we nt do wn hard again in the second moto, the bike slapping him rude ly before the ground did. This time he had to take time to straighten the handlebars , allow ing the w ho le class to get by. Meanwhile, Daven port had his hands full with Monk, w ho didn't want to give up the lead . Davenpo rt tr ied diffe rent ruts to gain e nough momentu m for a pass, but each time Monk had an ans wer. Side by side, t he t wo b umped grips down t he high w ay straight away until Davenport finally achieved a three-second victory on his Hatt iesb urg Cycle Suzuki. The 85cc ( 12- 15) Modified class featured 20 riders from six states, including two riders fro m England . This w as a ve ry active class; riders we re constan tly railing t urn s, passing, cras hing, re mounting , and recovering posit ions. Derrick Ronso ne t led e arly, ahea d of Mitch Gour ne y, je re my Do mi ngu e a nd W iggins , Mississippi's Kyle Gills. Go urney we nt down, and Gillssneaked into second. England's Steven Clarke moved into third to battle Gills. When Ronsonet wen t high up on a be rm , both Gills and Clarke ducked underneath. Gills won this battle w ith his 1-3 tally, but Clarke came back eN to win the war with his 2-1 scor e. The Kawasaki rider won every mota in three classes and led all but two laps on the day in the 85cc O pe n, Senior Mini and O pen Amateu r events . Vickery couldn't have picked a better day to race , as the skies were sunny and the temperatures aro und 70 for ro und two o f the So ut he rn Georgia Winter/Spring se ries, sponsored by Camden Motorsports in Kingsland and Southern Ou tdoor Spo rts in Waycross, among others . T he co m b ined Sch ool bo y a nd Ope n Amateur field took off with Vicke ry lead ing Matthew 8 urke , Matt Morgan, David Benjamin and jonat han Edge. The two fro ntrunners pulled away from the rest of the pack to finish one-two. Morgan kept th ird until just 50 before th e halfway flag, when 8enjamin slipped by. Edge was quickly all ove r Morgan, and he made the pass into fourt h with two laps to go. Edge didn't stop there: He passed Benjamin on the last lap for the last podium spot. In the second mota , Burke got the jump on Vickery to lead the first lap. Vickery got the lead on lap two and pu lled away to an ot her win. Bur ke ke pt seco nd. Edge started in th ird but dropped to fourt h. Benjamin got third . Landon Aldrich was passed by Morgan, who roun ded out the to p five. In th e first 85cc O pen moto , Vickery led Gar rett Sm ith, W ilfred a Guzman, Ant hon y Zaffino and 8ubba Pet e rse n. Vickery pulled out to his th ird mota win of t he day, leaving the rest to scra p for second . Guzman got around Smit h o n lap two for seco nd, but by the n Vickery already had a sizable lead. Smith kept third to t he checkers. O n lap tw o , Vickery got the lead and kept it to take his sixth mota victory of the day. Gu z man w o und up second, and Smith ke pt third the entire time . The race was for fourth , amo ng Zaffino, Petersen, Grantham and Twilley . At halfway, Twilleydropped off the pace, letting the th ree boys dice it out. Pet erse n got around Zaffino for fourth , and Grantham kept sixth. Allthe girls - and o ne boy ~ lined up to batt le in th e com bined Women's and 50cc Beginner class . Tw ille y t o ok bo th m o t o s w ith no challenges. Haley Harper and Kayla 5ann battled for seco nd in both motes, with Harper getting t he nod each time.
