W allace was pulli ng holeshots and winning motas all day long. T here were many who challenged, but at the end o f th e day Wal lace took home the m oney in th e Over 25 A , 125cc A and 250 cc A divis ions. The big race of the day was in the Mini ranks, in the RACING ON THE TUBE ascc ( 12 - 13) g r o up . Both Hol ton and Schmelyun quickly passed H ar riso n th ro ugh t he firs t series of comers, and by halfway through lap o ne these two young pilots were movi ng into the 14- and 15year-old riders that had left o n the early gate ahead of them. By th e end of the first lap, Schmelyun had w o r ked his way past H ol ton and was picki ng off the o lder ri ders one by o ne. By lap t hr ee , bo t h Schm elyu n and H olto n had w orked their way past all but th e top ri der in t he 14 - 1S gro up . On th e final lap, Ho lton managed to sq ueeze by Schmely un for the w in. Mo t a two w o u ld pro ve t o be jus t as exci ti ng. H ol t o n gra bbed t he holeshot th is time, and Schmelyun was r ight o n his heels. Again, t hese tw o futur e stars ran into tra ffic on the first lap , and H olton grab bed th e advantage and started to pull away. When the two came ou t of the bottom section of the co urse o n lap tw o , Schme lyun had som ehow worked his way past Holton , an d t he batt le was o n! Th e two raced t ir e to tire fo r th e re mainde r of the race , and at the checke rs it was Schmelyu n by a bi kelengt h for t he overall. Schme tyun we nt o n to take the w in in the Junior Mini (9- 13) d ivision as well , making it a double win at Dou blin Gap in the season opener. Holto n went o n to take the ove rall w in in the Supe rmini d ivision later in t he day.
