Honda rider Bryan Nudge took the holeshot
and led the O pen Novice pack for the first lap.
The t riple step-up jump la nding into a sharp
right turn that dro ps into a dow nhill do uble is a
thrill ing c rowd- plea ser and proved to be the
place to make a move, as demonstrated by
Honda pilot Dan Nicely. O n lap tw o, Nicely
made it look easy, lite rally flying up the tri ple
step-up jump past Nudge. who conse rvat ive ly
rode up it. While Nicely staye d o ut fro nt .
Suzuki rider Devin Brassfie ld took third in the
whoops and jumped past Nudge on the triple

to move fro m fourth to third on lap two, which
put him in posit ion to pass into second on the
final lap. Nice ly too k first overall, Brassfie ld was
second, and Yamaha racers Tim Crowle y and
D u st in Mo rr is came in thi rd and fourt h ,
followed by Honda rider Tyler Wilson in fifth.
Th e Ve t Novice class also used t he t riple

First- lap leade r Te rry Garve r overj umped the

flew by, establishing a five-bikelength lead until
they slowed do w n in th e whoops. a llowi ng

the ne xt lap , Garve r passed Weis, bu t We is
repassed him in the whoops. Pushing to regain
the lead, Garver cased the triple jump and went
dow n, and Ho nd a pilot Ashley Baham took
third. John Munson jumped the triple to gain a
pOSi tio n te mp orarily. but his fellow Kawasaki
jockey Dan Kemper regained the spo t to come
in fourth.
In moto tw o , most of the racers opt ed not
to jump t he tri ple step -up an d instead made
the ir moves on the tabletop and whoo ps on the
back sect ion of the track. O n lap three. it was
