Northwest Arenacross Championship Series Round 12: Forster Livestock Pavilion Terlecki's Too Muehl By CLAY LIGHT SALEM, OR, FEB. 15 o rmer AMA National and Supercross regular Ryan Terl eck i was too muc h for t he co mpet ition at the fina l round o f t he Lee Col lins-promoted Northwest Arenacross C hampionship Ser ies. The Yamaha rider won every mote he entered, scoring the 12Scc and 2SOcc Pro-class wins and pocketing the majority of the Pro payoff as riders from allover the West converged at t he O regon State Fair grounds for the 12th round ofthe series. Nob ody could match the speed of Herb 's Cycletown/Sinisalo/Gaerne -backed Terleck i, who is taki ng a break fro m a full-time AMA National and Supercro ss sched ule after recently marrying his longt ime girlfriend . Terlecki got aro und Washington's Eric Waunch shortly after the unleashing of the first 250cc Pro moto , and fr o m t hat po int on he went unc ha llenged . Another of the many Evergree n State riders on hand , j.R. Vielle, ove rca me a po or start and picked off Waunch late in the moto to secure seco nd. Waunch , riding a YZ250 two-stroke, finished third . followed by Kawasaki rider Keith Ford , Craig Bergemeier, joel King and Don i Wanat. Terlecki headed the field in moto two and aga in co ntr o lled t he tempo to the finis h, capp ing off the first of his tw o overall wins . Vielle trailed Terlecki in both mot os to garner second overall. followed by Waunch (3-3), Ford (4-4) and King (6-5). F 80 Terlecki was e q ually impressive on the smaller bike; though his claim to fame is in the 2505, Terlecki showed he still has what it takes to w in the tiddler class , as t he ride r from Silverton aced bot h mot es to poc ket another $32 0. Waunch and Ford traded second-p lace finishes, w ith Waunch (2-3) garnering second overal l. Ford (5-2), King (4-4), Wanat (3-5), Richie Kaumo (7- 6), Be rgemeie r (6 -7) and Californian Cra ig Smith (B-8) filled out the top positions. O ne of t he day 's most impress ive performers was Eugene, Oregon's Matt Wilson. Riding a YamahaYZ2S0F, Wilson posted wins in the 12Scc, Before The Hill Junior and FourStroke classes, mak ing him the o nly r ider among the large turnout on hand to accomp lish such a feat. Wilson has been impressrve of late, and on t his day he walloped the com pet ition in t he Before The Hill junior main event. Wilson and another rider from t he Eugene area, Kevin Pe t ru sh kin, were vict o r io us in t he two qualifiers, which trimme d the field from 3 1 to 16 for the main. Wilson grabbed the lead in the final and had Washington's Jeff A1boucq to deal with for several laps before the Honda rider let Wilson slip away. Things worsened for A1boucq late in the final, as Kevin Steere slipped past and fo llowed Wilson to the finish. Brad Goodson, Brad Bat che lo r, Aaron McC linto n and Petrushkin followed . MARCH 17,2004 • CYCLE NEWS Matt Wilson topped three classes at the Northwest Arenacross Championship Series finale in Salem, Oregon.
