BP Promotions Pennsylvania State Hare Scrambles Series Round I: Flyin g Dutchmen Mo torcycle Club Klinger Krushes the Kompetition By JIM Buu PINE GROVE, PA, FEB. B D ouod one of the BP Promotions Pennsylva" "ia State Hare Scrambles Series, sponsored by MSR/Answer Racing, was held in early February at the Flying Dutchmen Motorcycle Club in Pine Grove . It was a bright, sunny day, with temperatu res in the low 30s and winds raging up to 20 mph over th e Iro zen , hard- packe d hare scram bles cou rse. As usual, the crew at the Flying Dutchmen did a great job 01 preparing the tra ck in the days prior to the event . The Northeast has been batt er ed wit h snow and frigid weather aU winter long, and the warriors from AMA District 6 were ready to ride. More than 300 participants came out to compete in the first round ofthe IO·round series. Last year 's number-two rider in the 85cc ( 12- 1S) division, TNT Cycles/Keeney t-lotcsports' Tyler Klinger, was on hand to fill the vacancy left by Tim Rizzon, who has moved up to the 250cc A class this year. justin Frederick grabbed the holeshot , but by the end 01 the first lap Klinger had establishe d himself in the lead position, and he never looked back. The young Suzuki pilot was the overall victor as well as the class winner, putt ing in a total of five laps in just over an hour. In the 8 5cc (7- 11) group, Spectra O ils/ Metro Clothing!RRP /AGV Helmets-sponsored Suzuki jockey Dale " Bugsy" Wakefield dominated his dtvision, leading from start to finish. In the Supe rm ini class . Ame rican Suzuki rider Chris Rizzon Irom Middlesex, New Jersey, too k the chec kers with a commanding win on t he ice. The big story 01 the day was 16-yea r-old Tim Rizzon, riding for American Suzuki, WER, O 'Neal Clothing and Rizzo n Cycles. Tim w as the Youth Rider of the Year in District 6, as we ll as Penn sylvania Stat e and Dist rict cham p in 2003. This was T im's first race on t he new Suzuki four-stroke in the Expert class, and it was also the first time he had competed on the ice with studded tires. 60 When the green flag dropped, the 2S0cc A division was off and runn ing - all excep t Tim. who sat on the line, his bike refusing to fire at first. A local Pro motocross racer, Cros sroads Powers po rt s-spo nsored Ty Wallace, grabbed the early lead, wh ile Tim started dead last. Tim was 20 seconds behind the leader at the end of the first lap. A little shaky at first on the studded tires, Tim started to find his groove a few laps into the race and began picking off riders one by one. Tim was making up valuable seconds on each lap, and on the final lap 01 this two-hour race , he ca ught and passed another Suzuki rider, jason Mark owicz. for the class win what an accomplishment for t his first -ye ar Expert rider! Moving up to an 8 5 from a 65 is natural, but not necessarily easy. Kimsey rode his new Yamaha to wins in both the 85cc (7- 1I) and Preteen 60-80cc events. Taylor Smith , on his RHS Honda , went back and lorth with Suzuki rider Dylan Howell , but a solid second in t he last mota set the order in the 85cc (7- 11) class. Suzuki jockeys Jesse Madden and Howell tried to catch Kimsey in the Pretee n contest. Robby W iniarczyk, o n his Freewheeling! LSD-tun ed CRF2S0R, w as t he har d o ne to catch on this day.
