AHRMA Speed & Sport National Vintage Trials Series A l'Int"ge Wltt.....nn S ..... ple. Three loops of 10 sections o n and around Speedworld's Vintage Motocross track created 30 safe and fun and yet challenging section s. T he be st pe rfo rmance was that of three-time U.S. Champ ion Lane Leavitt , with a clea n ride o n his Bultaco in the Mod ern Classic Expert class. He was followed closely by Yamaha riders Dave Cooper, with two po ints, and Alfredo Rodil, wit h eight points. The 2002 AHRMA Nat ional Ch amp io n, Len Sims, had to sett le for fourth , losing 15 points. T Saracen rider Terry Sterret won the Classic Expert co nte st with a single-point score, over Bultaco jockey Eugene Waggoner, with two points. Piloting a Penton to third place was Rick Wolf, who only lost one more point . The Prem ier Heavyweight Expert winner was AHRMAregular Mike Fenner, drop ping just a single point on his Triumph. The Premier Ughtweight Expert class was topped by the BSA -mounted Wolf, Jerry Sterret borrowed his brother's Triumph and entered in the Premier Ughtweight Novice class in his first -ever Trials competition ' and won, finishing with zero pointsl with 15 points. Riding the Exhibition class, just for fun (and practice), were two of the U5A:s best Youth riders, 9-year-old National Champion Brian Roper and National number fo ur, Daniel Leavitt , wh o bot h ride Beta 80s . Todd Roper, Brian's dad, also rode on a modern Beta , giving the Vintage guys a look at what the new-school sport of Trials is all about. Todd was a member of t he 1992 U.S. Trials Des Nations team, which has the distinction of being the bestfinishing squa d of all time at the Wo rld Team Cham pionship. But even on their more modern bikes , no ne of those riders could bett er the sco res of either Lane CN Leavitt or Cooper (2).
