Co-authors Cycle News' European editor Alan Cathcart and Motorcyclist editor Marc Cook go into incredible detail about the bike that was created to replace the iconic 916/996/998. The book is packed with hundreds of amazing photos and illustrations of the creation of the 999, as well as historical images of the company's sto- ried past . What readers will enjoy the most are the illustrations and original concept drawings that show the bike's evolution, with designer Pierre Terblanche's first-hand descriptions of how the bike came to be. There is a chapter dedicated e ntirely to the 999' s sophisticated Testastretta powe r plant, and another de dicated the bike's chassis, while another chapter focuses on how the bikes are assemb led at Ducati's factory in Bologna, Italy. The authors didn't leave a stone untumed when it came to research- ing the 999, so any and all of your questions about the bike are surely answered. Eric Bostrom (pictured with Michael Lock) visited Ducati North America headquarters last week and received keys to a brand-new 999 sportbike. AHA Superbike racer Bostrom visited Ducati to meet with CEO Michael Lock and staff this week in Cupertino, Califomia. As the newest addition to the Ducati family, Bostrom was welcomed by Lock with the keys to a 2004 Ducati 999, based upon the 999R factory AMA04 bike he will ride this season for the Parts Unlimited Ducati Austin team . The 999 dominated the World Superbike Championship in 2003, finishing first and second in points with factory riders Neil Hodgson and Ruben Xaus. D ucati Corse's commitment to success is carried to the U nited States this year with full factory support for Bostrom's AMA Superbike cam paign, accor ding to Ducati. This effort is important to winning the competitive AHA Mobile Mu§eum In 2003, the Harley-Davidson Traveling Museum registered more than 270,000 visitors, logged more than 42,000 miles, and stopped at approximately 170 dealerships, three open houses and seven motorcycle rallies nationwide. This Harley-Davidson attraction has been traveling to events across the country since 1988 , displaying memorabilia, classic Harley-Davidson motorcycles and the rich history of the Harley-Davidson Motor Company and its riders . The Museum is also scheduled to make stops at Daytona , Myrtle Beach, Lake George, Laconia and Sturgis in 2004 . The 999 features winning technologies derived from the racetrack, such as the four-valve Testrastretta engine . On the stan dard 999 , this engine delivers 124 horsepower at 9500 rpm. Bostrom's first race of the season is the Daytona 200 on March 6th in Daytona Beach, Florida.
