Hig h la nds Kawasaki/Pro Circuit S1C Winter Series Ro und I : Son Jacinto Cycle Pork Grantom Gets T he Highlands Kawasaki/Pro Circuit STC Winter Series started its fifth annual trip across Texas with the open ing roun d of a seve n-race series . More than 450 entrants came to San jacinto Cycle Park to ring in the 2004 racing season . Riders fro m across the state came out and we re treated to perfect w eat he r and grea t racing. American Suzuk i/ Fox Racing-spon so red Ryan Gra ntom stole the spotlight with a pair of overall w ins in the 125cc Intermed iate and 125cc Open classes. Granto m nailed the holeshot in the first 12Scc Inte rmediate moto, with Honda of HoustonfTroy Lee Designs' Ronny jackson in tow. The two quickly began to put some distance on the field, leaving Blake Cochran at the head of a fight for third with H. McMillan and Taylor Painter. Up front. jackson was shadowing Grantom 's every moye, even closing in a little as t he field began to come up on lapped traffic. Grantom never gave jac kson an openi ng but held on to take the first-moto win in a ve ry close race. Cochran, a new comer to t he Inte rmediate class, held strong to take third place. ahead of Painte r and McMillan. The second moto saw Grantom up front after a short battle with Cochran for the lead. Sean Hackley Jr. found himself in the mix after collecting sixth in the first mote. Hackley rode stro ngly and picked up second for an impres sive t um -around. Behind him. jackson was plagued with bad luck and gathered fifth for his efforts. jackso n's 2-5 tally still edged ou t Hackley fo r second ov era ll. Aft e r finis hing fifth in t he fir st mo to, K' s Motorsports{Thor/Pro Works-sponsored McMillan ste ppe d it up a notch and knocked out a third -place finish for fourth ove rall, ahead of the 4-4 score of Granbury Motorsports' Painter. Rodolfo Fer nandez came away t he big winner in t he ascc classes with an impressive six moto wins for overall wins in the asc c (12 -13 ), ju nio r Su permi ni a nd Supermi ni cla sses . Fernandez 's closest compe tition came from Louisiana's Bre ndan Harp. who won the 85cc (7- 11) class. Cody Smith rode to third overa ll in the junior Supe rmini con test, ahead of Kalep Clark. Reese Sayle r picked up fourt h overall. The Succ classes we re full of action , wit h Andrew Pierce taking the top honors in the 50cc (7-8) class. Pierce swe pt both motos for a I-I score, over Bre nnan Beckett , w ho fo llowed Pierce across t he line in bot h moto s. Behind t he m, Devi n Mikulec finish e d 4-3 to edge out th e 3-4 sco re of Fre ddy Moreno . Bryan Stark put in a co nsistent 5-5 effort for fifth ove rall. The SOcc (4-6) class saw Lo uisia na's Hun ter Hilto n se t a command ing pace to take the overall with a perfect pair of moto wins. Hilton was followe d by Austin Andrews in both motos, while Blake Neiheiser and Teddy Britt swapped mote finishes , with Nelhetser picking up third overall. Parker Carnes took fifth ove rall.
