Dave Co upe announced it woul d be his final
race. With names such as Vohland , Lamson ,
Holland and Bonds all making appearances in
years pa st, t he annual Coupe Cla ssic wa s
always one of tho se "must atte nd" events, and
the best part was that you never knew who
w ould sho w up . Co up e , a fo r me r fac tory

woodw ork.
"I hate calling th is the 'final: but putting on
this eve nt just got tougher and tou gher every
year: ' said Coupe. · We had some great battles
here among some of the fastest guys around,
and I'll certa inly miss it. I rea lly want to thank
everyo ne that attended and helped out every
year to make it the success It was."
O n the track , Carmichae l Ho nda's Chris
l oredo bested the 125cc Pro class with a 2-3
sho wing. Loredo's consistent rides did t he
t rick, as his team mate Be au Judge also rode
strong but came up just one po sition short,
finishing with a 1-4 sco re for a tie and had to
settl e for secon d on th e day. Suzuki pilot Brad
Ripple rou nde d out the top three on the day
with a 4-2 tally
.
Loredo was looking to do similar damage in
the 250cc Pro class, as he nabbed the holesho t
in moto one an d hel d on for th e vic tory.
However, in moto tw o , he went down several
la ps Int o the race , w hile Tommy Je an of
Fern ley, Nevada, led up front. It qUickly turned
into a three-rider battle for the lead spot, as
Judge and 5cott Davis challenged Jean for the
win, but Jean held tough, and the effort netted
him a 4-1 sco re , which was good en ough for
t h e o verall. Da vis (2-3 ) a nd Judge (5 -2 )
rou nded out the top three.

swapped wins in the ho tly con t ested 125cc
Inte rmed iate class , but it was Rookstool who
came out on to p wit:h a 2-1 score. Both riders
had mot os in wh ich they came up through the
pack; fortu nate ly for Rookstool , it wasn 't the
secon d mota, as he jumped out front and took
a huge win, while She rman clawed th rough the
pack afte r a poo r start fo r a hard -ea rned
second-place finish and second ove rall. Third
went to Yamaha pilot Kyle Kent, who rod e to
strong 4-3 finishes among the 18-ride r field.
Rookstool and Sherman went at it again in
the 250cc Intermediate class, but crashe s took
a toll, as Rookstool we nt down in moto one,
and She rman did the same late in mota two .
Taking adva nta ge of th e sit uatio n was Ros s
Cr eech, who rod e a pair of smart motas and
t urn ed a 3-2 effo rt into the ove ra ll victory.
Dam ie n l utt rel (2- 5) and Kris Trie st (5-3)

Le ith kept fighting and eventually claimed
the to p prize in the 65cc (6-8) class at Mesquite
Moto -X parl<.Competing in the fourth ro und of
the five -race Santa's Sproc ket MX Series, Leith
came fro m beh ind in both motos to e arn the
title .
Conner Monks led Cole Nanney and Austin
Wa rr e n as race ac t ion op e ned up . War ren
q uick ly pass ed his way Into t he lead in t he
rhythm sect ion. Raging up through the pack was
Frank Gould III, roar ing into the lead on the east
side . Le ith w as also ca rving up thro ugh t he
competition, passing riders on his way toward

the front. O n the white- nag lap, Warren made a
pass on Monks to grab secon d. but Leith was
no t to be den ied, passing bo th riders to tak e
second for himself. Gou ld won the round, with
Leith leading Warren and Nanney at the end.
Monks nailed his second str aight holes hot ,
le a ding Go u ld an d N a nn ey as mo t o tw o
cranked up. Gould opened up a lead and looked
solid for t he ove rall until a "c rash ' n' burn"
dro pped him from co nte ntio n. Leith fou ght
throu gh a wild scrap with Monks, Nanney and
Warre n to take over the lead . Th ings rem ained
tight until t he ve ry last lap, whe n Leith ope ned
up a lead that would get him the win and earn
him the overa ll 65 cc (6· 8) crown. War ren 's
consistency ne tted him second overall, ahead of
Monks, Gould and Chaisson Cozze ns.
