Cart C lark C ounty Are nacross Scramb les Shaffer S hoots to First By J USTIN W HARTON BATTLEGROUND, WA , NOV. 15 With the rain co ming d ow n outside, riders were treated to a perfectly gr oo med indoor trac k at the first race of the year at the Clark Cou nty A renacross. Th e firs t race was Scr ambl es Day, with num erou s fou r·stroke, m in ibi ke and age cla sses. In the Over 30 Beginner main event, firs ttime racers (an d brothers · in-law) Robert Shaf· fer and Shan non Barn es were racing tog ether. Th ey m oved up th roug h t he pack together , with Barnes leadin g Shaffer by a mere bik elength. They fina lly wo rked their way to the top , and Barnes looked ready to take the win over Shaffer and Dav id Hill esland. but then he stalled in a co me r, and severa l racers shot by. Shaffer found him self in the lead, and he took the checkered flag for the win . Second place w ent to Hillesland , and th ird place we nt to Mik e Jamison . Barnes got back up in tim e to take fourth, and fifth was Todd Fitzpatrick .
