Colby and Wes ton Ad am s fo un d th e t rack sui te d th e ir sty le, as th e y rode to w i n s i n th eir respecti ve classes. Co lby took control from the sta rt of th e 65 cc class in bo th the short tra ck and IT and ro d e to win s by a straightawa y in ea ch . Nathaniel Vowe ll was the runn er -up eac h time out, with Macy Moran fini shing third. W est on p u lled hole shots i n eac h 85 c c ma in an d di sapp ear ed for t he win s. Ni c k y Spo re and Cod y Brown ran wh eel to wh eel for second , with Br own gaining the spot o n th e oval and Spore doing so in the IT. Weston was back aga in in the 200cc Pro Am IT, but he was no m atch for Dakota Si m m o n s, w h o w o n . W es t on h ad t o h old o f f Patri ck Pyle for seco nd. Simmon s scored four clas s w in s o n th e night, with his best ride com ing in t he Mad Dog IT. He went to the fron t and crept away for th e win, while Aa ro n Ladd and Stevi e Na ce traded pai nt fo r seco nd. Ladd eamed the spot at the flag . Ladd was perfect the rest of the night and rolled 10 th e win in the Open Pro class. Ky le Kelly hounded Dean Faulkner earl y on befor e finding an opening to finish second . Faulkner tried hard for the win in th e Vet class but cam e up ha lf a wheel short to winner Gene Yopp . Ed Clark filled out th e rostrum . Dennis Porter held off a determ ined Yopp to earn the Senior- cl ass win . Clark came from a bad start to clos e on the leaders but had to settle for th ird, o ver David Bro wn and Do n Duncan . B ro c k Mo ran d o ubled u p o n th e Stock XR100 cl ass, whil e Ma tt Paterson earn ed th e 200cc Amateur -cla ss win . Lu ke Ba ird was on flre in the 50 cc Shaft sho rt -tr ack event. as he rode to a co nvincing win , nearly lappin g th e fl eld . Dylan Do ug la s slipped past J acob Mo rris lat e in th e race to fin ish sec ond . Mo rr is rebou nde d to tak e th e win in th e IT, ov er Baird and Douglas. JOHNNY G m TAR CASTLE ROCK , WA , SEPT . 27 When the "H ill billy Halb ert s" pulled the recent Iy painted "Coo l Bus" into Cast le Rock, that was bad new s for the rest of th e Pro rid ers. In th e Wil d Cat O pe n Pro heat race, Jeff An nen soundly beat both Jethr o and Sam Helbert. Know ing t hat th e sta rt would be a ll im portant in th e main eve nt , Jethro grabbed th e lead , with Sam a cl os e second , wh ile Annen was stuc k in third. Jethro set a ve ry fast pa ce as the top thr ee steadily pu lled away from the rest of the field . It wa s a clo se, tense race for all 15 lap s. but at th e fini sh the orde r remained the same , with J ethro ta k i ng th e win , hi s b ro t he r Sam a close se cond and Ann en havin g to sett le fo r thi rd. At the sta rt o f t he 125/25 0 c c M od ified ma in , Du stin Pru czinsk i stol e th e lead . Lap after la p , Chris Celorie applied maximum pressure, and at halfway he passed Pruczinski. Now it was ti m e for Celorie to feel Pruczinski's h o t br e at h , b ut despite his best effo rts , Pru czin sk i fi nished a close secon d . E lliot Oquist was th ird . Kurt Edwa rds absconded w ith the holeshot in the Over 30 main . St ev e Pow er slid into second. On lap th ree , Han k M iller lo w sided com ing out of the sweepe r. and the race was red -flagged . Hank was able to restart, with nothin g m ore tha n road rash. On the restart, Garry Roll er and Pow er batt led throug h the fi rst tum . Power led o ver th e j um p, and Ro ller ca m e under att ack fro m a relentles s Ed wards, who m ad e a go o d ins ide p ass on Ro ll er for second . Th en Ed wa rd s cl o sed th e g ap t o Power, but he ran ou t of laps. Sm all -bore four -st ro ke s ar e th e o rd er of the day in t he Ma d Do g class, an d on t his night th e co m petition wa s especially fi erce. Scott Bak er took th e lead, determined no t to let his youn ger brother Brad have it . Chasing the Baker boy s is no easy job, bu t just th e sam e, J .D . Beach gave it all he had in thi rd. Th e crowd was tre ated to the sight of three of th e Northwest 's best and brightest go ing at it. Th e o rder stayed th e same at th e finis h, but yo u co uld hav e th ro wn a bl ank et over the to p th ree th ro ughoutl O q u ist shot in to t h e lea d of the O p en A ma teur m ain , Pruczinski pull ed ou t all the stops but just co uldn't quite get clo se eno ug h to m ake a m ove. Oquist took a well -deserv ed win, Pruczinski was a soli d seco nd, and Chase Gil bert was a fine th ird. Gary Beach cou ld have used an electric sta rter on his Trium ph , as he killed the m ot or trying to get off th e line in his heat race and wound up fin ishing last. At the start of th e Twins main, Gary faced another uphill battl e, as the Todd brothers, Kam and Koby , beat him to th e first tum. However , Gary put some smooth m oves on the Todd brothers through th e infie ld to take the lead , and he had a corn fortable lead at the finis h. Karn took second . He po sted wins in the 125cc A and 25 0c c A classes and scored the runner-up spo t in th e com petitive 16-24 A cl ass. In 250cc A heat act ion , th e m an wi th a pa te nt on holeshots, Todd W a lt o n , na bbed another one, with Derek Gib son and El i Kams in to w. Walton had his way for a couple of laps until he th re w a chain and gave h is lead to Gib son , who went on for th e w in . Raubs suffered a very poor start but cha rged all th e way up to second. Karns p laced third, and Nathan Kimball was fourth. Karns, wh o is now getting comfortabl e in the 250cc cla ss, got th e holeshot in th e m ain event, but G ibson d isp la c ed h i m almo st immed iately . Then Raubs got by Karns . By halfw ay through the ope ning lap , Raub s had pas sed Gibson on the ga p jump for firs t. The o rder at th e end of la p on e was Raubs. Gib so n. W alto n , Karn s and Kimball. T he pa ce was fast , and Raubs wa s ju st on fi re, bu t so wa s Wa lton, wh o go t by Gi bson fo r seco nd and set h is sights on Raub s. However, wi th a great effo rt, Raubs held o n fo r the win . Wa lton was sec o nd , with Gibso n th ird . Th e cl os est race was for fourth, between Karns and Kim ball , wi th Kimb all ge tti ng by for fourth and Kern s pl acing fift h. The gate fell ju st as Kaw asaki jock ey J osh Bec kley wanted it to in th e 65cc Senio r heat , and he took the holeshot. Keepi ng a close eye on hi m was KTM -m ounted Co li n Weber. and by th e end of lap one Weber had ta ken th at firs t spo t, putt ing Beck ley in seco nd . Suzuk i pi lot Mi ke Lohr er was thi rd . Weber took th e heat win, with Beckley keeping hi m honest in th e secon d spot. Lohr er wa s th ird , C od y Moell er was fourth. and John Undsey was fifth. The 65cc Senior m ain was all Weber from start to finish. He was followed by Beck ley. There was a good battle for third between Moeller and Lehrer, with Lehrer getting by for third . Moeller fmished fourth , and Undsey was fifth. Th e gate was prett y fu ll for the 6 5c c Junior heat. Mike Leonard showed th ese future stars how to get a holeshot, but fro m the get ·go, J ordan Esser was nipping at his heels , along with Skyler Rath and Donald Ti cknor. Leonard went on for the heat win, with Esser kee pin g him in sight fo r second . Rath charged in th ird , with Tickno r in fou rth and Jord an Ihl e in fifth. In the 65cc main, Leo na rd nail ed ano th er hol eshot , foll owed by Ihle, Rath , Ticknor and Esser. Leona rd had his han ds full all moto long with Ihle, until Ihle go t the best of him and took the win , with Leo nard second , Rath th ird , Ti cknor fourth and Esser ho lding down fifth. ...
