Henry lost som e time to Ken on the o pening lap s but q uick ly foun d a way to ma ke up the lost g ro und . Th e top tw o were wit hin feet of each other every lap. Henry fin all y m ad e a m o ve for th e lead wi th onl y o ne lap t o go. H enry ma de th e m ove stic k and took the che ck ered flag . Ken was a cl os e seco nd, with A lla n Gri ffen , on hi s David Barr -spon sored ride , a pa tient third . Fi ve of the sp ort 's future sta rs lin ed up to batt le in the 50c c cl ass. Matt Turner grabbed the hol eshot , with PBW -sponso red Scott Irv in in tow . Ben Scog gins, Ky ler Snipes and Tr ey Amerson were in th e mix as well . Unfortunately, Irvin's tri ck ed -ou t PW5 0 seized up only a few la ps in, ruining hi s chances at th e gold. Am er son ste p pe d up to the p la te and to ok seco nd , with Scog gin s on his rear fend er . Out front, Turner was building hi s lead , and at the end , he too k th e win , with Amerson ho lding on f o r second, Scogg ins th ird, and Snipes a resp ect ab le fo urth.
