Th e first racer off the li ne was Dale Kieffer, fo llo wed by Jason Perez and Dow ie. Heading down th e back straight in the first of 12 scheduled laps. Perez draft ed and atte m pted to pass Kieffer but was shut out as the rider s entered tu m eig ht. Dow ie im m edi ately saw his oppor tunity an d pow ered his way past Perez into second. A l a p l at er . Perez drafted a nd pa sse d Dow ie on th e ba ck straight, but Dowi e m oved back into seco nd in the long turn -eight sweeper.
