Young Cook was a no -show at the fir st of the two eve n ts , but after batt li ng all da y wi th Suzuki j oc k ey T yl er Car t er, he clea rly showed that the tr ail s of this valley belong to him ! Th e Perry Mou nt ain Motorcycl e Club host ed this event in th e heart of Reyn old s Pastur e, surro unded by 3 500 acres of gnarly tr ails. To eve r yo ne 's likin g , th e ra c e sta rte d at 8:30 a.m ., t ak ing advant age of the cooler t empera tures to beat the sum m er hea t. St arting fi rst were t hose iii ' 50s, rooting and tea ring it up . T hese li ttle gu ys had gro wn m en st aring in ast on ish m ent at th eir potential for aggressive ridin g sk ills . T he loo p wa s sho rt , but a rnin lm um of 20 m inu tes on the trail made fo r a lot of fun, not only for the ra cers but also for th e spectators. T aki ng th e ho leshot was B-year -o ld KTM ride r M icah W illia ms , a loc al fro m A laba ma. W illiam s was all thr ot tl e , ho lding on t o first place th e entir e race, and lapping m any of th e riders. Will iams said he had one cras h but saw others on the trai l. T his part of th e trail was also a small slice of the adults ' ha re scram bles, which wou ld take pla ce later in th e day . Next wa s th e m in ib ik es co nte st, in wh ich 7 -year -old KTM rid er Ty ler Whe at le y w as chased by 6 -year·old fellow KTM rider Bren nen Reed, wh o had everyo ne laughing at his own trail creati on. A t th e first of th e two ha re sc rambles, KTM rid er B illy Bu tle r took hom e the gold but had a bit of bad luck at round tw o. T he sw ift you ng ster had a ho rrifi c crash (due to a flat tir e and some intense, rooted trai l) tha t left hi m sitting o u t fo r severa l lap s. T o everyone ' s amaze m en t , B utler managed to la un ch the o range m achi ne up and fin ish t he rac e. W it h eac h passi ng race, these adolescent riders are qa ining speed , and they look forwa rd to m oving up to the m ore competit iv e ki ds' cl asses. L ev i J en sen , Ja mes Beck and Will iams battled for sec ond. Wi lliams got by both Be ck and Jensen. Th en Cassi dy A nderson put in a great ride . fi nishing seco nd . Panzer took thi rd , with Wallwor k forth . Davenport too k th e ov er all . w it h Panzer (4 -3 ) sec ond and Wallwork (3 -4) third . Argyle qui ckl y took his Honda 450 into the lead of the Ope n Amateur cl ass, with Je remy Q 'Drisc oll and Reed T ingey on his rear fend er . Argy le and J ohn son also got by Kenl ey and were looking to catch t he fl eeing Will iams, but w ith cle ar t ra c k in front of him , W illiams shredded t he track and to ok a co m m anding lea d , wideni ng the gap with every lap .
