Monster Mountain Motocross Park Tallassee, Alabama Results, July 19-20, 2003 Hallett Motor Racing Circuit: Joe Prussiano (55) of Vinyl Edge Racing leads Shannon Ball (95) of North Texas Yamaha during the first hour of competition at round five of the CMRA Championship Endurance Series in Hallett, Oklahoma. just ended up riding the remainder of my stint in second and third. With the shifting problems getting worse, Vinyl Edge dropped back to third. At the finM ish. it was Village Idiols taking the win, with North Texas Yamaha second and Vinyl Edge third. Desert·Rats.net and Short Bus Racing rounded out the top five overall. Northwest Honda limped in in 23rd. "The day worked out for us today." said Steve Breen of the win. "We had no problems with the bike, and everybody got out there and endured. Getting everybody to stay on the bike and endure the heat is kind of a major stress. Our Michelins went the distance. That's the second six·hour we've done where we ran a one-tire race. That was a big part of our day • not having to do a tire change - because that would have been tough in this heat. We ran a pretty good pace and kept consistent lap times, and that was the key." Hallett Motor Racing Circuit Hallett. Oklahoma Results, July 19. 2003 !Round 5) 6·HR ENDOR: I. ViH~ Idiots (Yam); 2. JULY 19-20 Monster Mountain played host to another supercross/motocross doubleheader. Despite the midsummer heat, the racing was fast and furious all weekend. Two of the Michigan Mafia's toughest hit men - Josh Lichtle and Nico Izzi - came south to take care of business, and both turned in outstanding performances on Monster Mountain's super outdoor course. In addition to the great show put on by these two Suzuki·mounted Amateurs, spectators got to see a series of outstanding Pro races as well. Thanks to the hard work of the Monster Mountain crew and Greg Cole's Southern Dirt DeSigns, the track was in excellent condition. Fast and relatively smooth. the track lent itself to real bar-to-bar action, and race announcer Jeff Hines kept the crowd on its feet all day. The first money class up was the combined 125cc A/B moto. Clint Shealy put his RM out front at the drop of the gate. with his fellow Georgian Michael Graham on his rear fender. Alabama's Drew Askew immediately started to pressure Graham but lost his front wheel in an off·camber corner and went down. Askew remounted quickly and started his charge back to the front. Unfortunateiy, his fall was only the beginning of a day that the youngster would like to forget, as problems plagued him all day. While Shealy, Askew and the rest of the A class began to sort themselves out. Lichtle grabbed the start of the B class and checked out, setting his sights on the A riders ahead of him. Shealy had the front-runner's spot nailed down and only had to keep his eye on Askew, who had come 64 AUGUST 20. 2003' eye Rhodes. Askew came around in fifth, visibly shaken. The youngster had suffered a nasty gash in his forehead and ended up missing the second set of motos, instead going to the hospital with his skull showing. Shealy led all the way to the flag. taking the win ahead of Lyle. Justus and Rhodes. Georgia's Charlie Evans took the B-c1ass honors. Mota two was rather uneventful. Askew was out, leaving Shealy and Lyle to battle for the win. Shealy again prevailed. with Lyle in second. ahead of Florida's Kyle Hochstetler. Evans took the win and the overall in the B class. Suzuki's Izzi was impressive in the Mini ranks, taking the win in the Senior Mini class and placing a strong runner·up to Uchtle in the Schoolboy class. His second place in the Schoolboys was especially noteworthy, as his was the only 85cc bike in the field. Equally impressive was Pro Action of Alabama's Chase Borders, who swept the Supermini class in grand style, ahead of Tim· othy Chumley and Cody Dickson, making it a top-three sweep by Suzuki riders in that class . I e back to second after his crash. While Askew put his head down and tried to catch Shealy, Uchtle quietly passed most of the A riders and was actually closing on Askew. who in turn was closing on Shealy. Time ran out, and Shealy took the win. ahead of Askew and North Carolina's Paul Justus, while LichtJe finished a comfortable distance ahead of Alaba· ma's T.e. Lightsey in the B class. Askew was unable to answer the bell for moto two due to a crash in the 250cc class, and Shealy once again led the pack off the line. Alabama's Dash Lyle was on the gas, and he passed Sheaiy on the first lap. Lichtle again took the lead in the B class. Out front, Shealy and Lyle were going bar to bar in a Ryan Hughes/Mike Brown-type battle that had the crowd going. The two passed and repassed each other, while Alabama's Jon Masters was putting in a strong ride in third. Shealy put his RM in the lead for the final time in a sandy sweeper and managed to hold off Lyles by a few feet for the win. followed by Shealy, Masters and Justus. Lichtle again dominated the B class and finished on the heels of the fourth-placed A rider. Lightsey again grabbed the runner-up spot in that class. The 250cc AlB contest again saw Shealy and Lyle going at each other, while Drew Askew's bid for the win came to an early close in the first moto. Lyle grabbed the start, ahead of Askew and Shealy, but Askew got by immediately on the "Stairway to Heaven," Lyle held on to second. On the third lap, Lyie made a bid for the lead. and he and Askew tangled; Askew executed a face-plant. Shealy took over the lead a short while later, ahead of Lyle, Justus and South Carolina's Jonathan n e vv s Salurday • SUpercroS5 500IL-II'tJ: I. Steve Nicholas (Hon), 50 (4·6): I.
